About me

edit

My name is Brooklyn Hill. I have five cats, two geckos, and nine siblings! Every night is like Thanksgiving dinner and we have enough to staff an entire boys vs girls basketball game. Growing up with a big family, I was never bored, for there is always something exciting happening. From running cross country to band concerts, my mom was there to support me through it all. I started running my sixth grade year and made it my lifelong goal to be a state qualifier in high school. Years later, my junior year, I achieved my conquest and had never seen my mom prouder.  Nowadays, I find myself working consistently to pay the bills and save for college. During my free time, I love to read, draw, and take my 18lb cat on walks around the block. Reading for even six minutes a day can reduce a persons stress up to 68%!

My Wikipedia interests

edit

If I choose to further my writing on wikipedia, I plan on sharing my opinions on all the novels I have devoured. I know the importance of finding the right book, and putting my ideas out there could potentially help adolescents discover something that fits their fancy. I love anything from J.K. Rowling to Ernest Hemingway, so I have a wide range of genres to refer new readers.

Article Evaluation

edit

Being employed at Starbucks for almost a year now, my interest in coffee has skyrocketed. I’ve worked at multiple coffee shops, and Starbucks is hands down the best one. Having this passion in my heart, I want that company to have as much information as possible online. Upon visiting Starbucks’ article on wikipedia, I found three aspects of it worth commenting on: it's lack of citations, lack of mentioning licensed vs corporate stores, and failure to explain personal connections.

Citations:

edit

In this page, there seems to be a lot of wikipedia links on the locations on where they opened up. However, at the bottom, it only gave three external links, and one of which is the actual Starbucks website. It fails to give any personal quotes from the founders, and their vision for all their stores. The only information that is supported is the economic side of the company.

Licensed vs Corporate:

edit

The page explains how Starbucks grew as a company and all the locations they opened up. All over the world they expanded, although, it didn’t mention the ones in supermarkets. Those shops sell the same products as any regular corporate store, and have an even wider range of personal cup selection. It’s important to mention them because they are often forgotten about and could bring in more revenue.

Personal Connections:

edit

When first being trained, Starbucks has mandatory videos and messages the manager needs to express to the new employee. It mentions that the founders desire their company to go beyond just a cup of coffee. It’s about hearing someone say your name and make genuine conversation about the customer’s day. The regulars at my store crave that connection, which is why they keep coming back. It’s nice to feel like you belong somewhere, and that page fails to mention anything about it.

Summary:

edit

Overall, I would say this page is a solid 6/10. If anyone is interested in the revenue behind the company, it would be a fantastic page. However, it fails to have the founders main message that drives Starbucks to be the best it can be, doesn’t mention anything licensed stores inside the local Safeway, and doesn’t contain the idea that coffee is so much more than the drink itself. Under the food bank section, it includes the percentages of donations, but fails to mention where that number is from, and which ones do or don’t. Adding this information could drive more customers into our stores.
