Thanks for getting in touch edit

I am not that active on en:wikipedia these days, but I did help the foundation get a few trademarks if you haven't noticed. When I get some free time I want to add more stuff on pages about civilian legal concepts and do some work as you have done for the common law approach to law. I went to law school in Quebec and have a civil and common law degree so I have some appreciation for civil law conceptualizations of law (and I practice in what some historians call a mixed system jurisdiction). Good luck with that domain name dispute. Alex756 03:19, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks - your background seems ideal for plugging some different perspectives into this project, so I hope to see you around. By the way, the .xxx dispute is the single most interesting thing that I have ever worked on! BD2412 T 03:43, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Archiving edit

Thank you for offering the archiving of my talk page. I simply copied its contents and pasted it to a new page named User talk:Adam78/Archive1. Or maybe I could have moved it to the new name, just like moving an article??? It would have been better, if it's possible, so as to keep its history. Do you think it's possible (moving a talk page to an archive page)? Adam78 00:55, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Well, you have those two options - if you do a cut-and-paste move, the edit histories stay on your talk page, which works best for someone like me who archives by topic rather than by date; but certainly you can just move the page to the name of the archive page, then go back to the redirect automatically created from your original talk page and replace that with a link to the archive like you have now. If you're going to archive wholesale, probably better to move the page. Cheers! BD2412 T 01:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for reminding. For now I split the page in general/statistics/EasyTimeline. For EasyTimeline I might extract outdated comments into archive and keep still relevant comments (to do later). Cheers, Erik Zachte 01:50, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

talk page edit

is there some policy that says i should archive my talk page? i haven't done it yet because there are requests on it that i haven't done yet. kate.

No rule for talk pages, so far as I know, but there is a general preference that pages be kept short enough that they do not take an excessively long time to load on slow browsers. This is a problem easily addressed with talk pages - you can just archive all those discussions that do not require a response. Cheers! BD2412 T 21:01, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Reply edit

About your entry on Wikipedia:List of non-admins with high edit counts, I believe these are occasionally automatically updated by a bot (or something like that), so if you remove your name, it may automatically get put back on the list (without being struck through), and people will again bother you to run for adminship. In other words, the best way to avoid being bothered is to leave your name on the list and struck through. (Or request to have your username changed to User:MOE ON WHEELS!!!, in which case no one will ever bother you about seeking adminship again). Cheers! BD2412 T 21:03, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

It is not automatically updated by bot, if it was, its doing a poor job because I wasn't listed until I manually inserted myself. The best way for be to stay off the list and not be bothered is to not be listed. Personally, I dont want it saying I failed 5 noms for adminship in more places than it needs to be. Changing usernames will not help either, all your contributions go along with it, just not your name. And I would get blocked if I changed my name to the suggested one you gave me. — The King of Kings 21:08 June 23 '06
I may well be wrong about the bot, I know there was discussion of using one which resulted in strong support, but perhaps this was not implemented. I don't see why a struck through listing has to mention previous RfA's at all. As for the (ahem) suggested username, that was meant to be tongue in cheek, but you would certainly be let alone! BD2412 T 21:34, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
I dont have time for you're ever-so-witty replies. That list usually list previous nominations as a way to tell the users how many times that editor has recieved a nomination. I just dont want to be listed is all. — The King of Kings 21:39 June 23 '06

Would you consider running for trustee? edit

Bo, there is an election coming up for the m:Board of Trustees. Candidates for the board are being accepted until midnight UTC on August 28. I am writing to you because I very strongly urge you to consider offering yourself as a candidate. I think you very clearly have what is needed of a person for the board and would make a fantastic trustee. Please see m:Election candidates 2006/En and m:Elections for the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation, 2006/En. Please consider this suggestion most seriously; I firmly believe your talents are most definitely suited for and needed on the board. --Durin 16:05, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Durin , I have considered the opportunity, but I do not believe that my current commitments would permit me to undertake such a position. Also, I have too many projects underfoot here - for the time being, I prefer to devote what time I can spare to the editorial end of things. Thanks for thinking of me, tho. Unspecified source for Image:EUTooManyStars.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:EUTooManyStars.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Nv8200p talk 21:29, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Category:Wikipedian intellectual property lawyers edit

Thanks for your suggestion. On the one hand, I like the idea of such categories, as it helps to know who the other users are - and it can certainly help in exchanging ideas. On the other hand, I would prefer not to be included in any category. Some may view an edit as biased by the simple fact that the person who made it is a lawyer, open source activist, software developer or whoever else. I try to stick on content, not by whom the content was added (I try). That's just my position now... and it does not mean the category is not a good idea of course. Cheers! and thanks again. --Edcolins 19:56, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Understood, and I appreciate your taking the time to reply. I like such categories because they guide users with questions about the content of an article to experts. Cheers! bd2412 T 02:51, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Time flies edit

Hello, old friend -- just want to say howdy. I'm still editing primarily in the articles on taxation, and trying to keep the tax protesters from violating the rules on Verifiability, Neutral POV, and No Original Research (my continuous, never-ending mantra). I can't believe I now have made over 9,900 edits since I began in November of 2005. Last summer I believe you asked me about adminship. Another editor has asked me (twice) as well, but for now I'm comfortable with where I am now in Wikipedia.

I hope things are well with you and your IP practice. Yours, Famspear 21:47, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Howdy from Texas, August 2007 edit

Howdy thar feller - just saw your post on a talk page for a tax protester article. Hope things are going great for you in the world of IP law. I still watch the tax-related articles like a hawk (especially the tax protest articles). Things have been fairly quiet this summer so far, and I don't make as many edits as I used to. In mid-May I began posting in the tax protester related forums at www.quatloos.com. The rules of engagement there are of course completely different. Daniel B. Evans, the exalted author of the tax protester FAQ web site with which I know you are familiar, also posts regularly at quatloos. It's a great group of people. (A few hardy tax protesters post there as well -- gluttons for punishment!!).

Anyway, just thought I'd say hello. (PS, As you may surmise, I don't really say things like "howdy thar feller" -- in fact, I'm not originally from Texas anyway, though it seems like I've lived here forever. I just like to overcompensate!)

Oh, and while I have you, I could use your impressive mediation skills over at Talk:Don't Copy That Floppy. Something to ease the tension if you have the time. Prodego talk 02:10, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Haha: how you know you picked an original username. Prodego talk 03:54, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Apologies edit

I would like to apologize if you believe that I was "biting" you or anything of that nature. I was simply reiterating my initial explanation of why this is not a POV problem - the POV comes in when people misinterpret or bias the meaning of a perfectly good word. The fact that I find myself repeating things leads me to believe (perhaps prematurely) that people are taking liberties with an intentional misinterpretation of what I've been trying to explain. I hope you understand and don't take it personally. Regards. --Cheeser1 (talk) 06:41, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
