  1. ^ This should not be taken as a finalized list of results. While a significant amount of research was done, there were a number of Delegates who were not bound by the instruction, or "Pledged" to a candidate, though an attempt has been made to display their initial preferences. Some states also held primaries for the delegate positions, and these on occasion were where slates or candidates pledge to a certain candidate might be elected; however, as these elections allowed for a single person to vote for multiple candidates, as many as the number of positions being filled, it is difficult to determine how many people actually voted in these primaries. For this reason, while the results of some are in the table, they are not included in the popular vote summaries at the bottom of the table. Also information on Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, who elected five and three delegates respectively to the Republican Convention, was not found.
  2. ^ Two in this group from the 3rd might have been pledged to Goldwater; they weren't polled, but reportedly the District Convention in the 3rd was strongly in favor of Goldwater.
  3. ^ While not Committed, they were in favor of Barry Goldwater.
  4. ^ Committed to Congressman Walter Judd of Minnesota.
  5. ^ Committed to Congressman John Byrnes of Wisconsin.
  6. ^ Peter Reiss ran as an Uncommitted Delegate in the 6th Congressional District; otherwise, there was no opposition.
  7. ^ An attempt was made to nominate Senator Thruston Morton as a favorite-son candidate, but Morton declined.
  8. ^ Committed to Congressman Walter Judd of Minnesota.
  9. ^ Includes 2,203 Write-In votes (0.27%) for George Wallace, and 465 Write-In votes (0.06%) for George Romney.
  10. ^ Includes five delegates whose preferences were not known.
  11. ^ Includes 220 Write-In votes (1.16%) for George Wallace, and 84 Write-In votes (0.44%) for Lyndon Johnson.
  12. ^ At the time of their election, 6 Delegates were essentially Committed to Rockefeller, with another Committed to Lodge.
  13. ^ Includes 600 Write-In votes (0.65%) for Lyndon Johnson, 365 Write-In votes (0.40%) for George Cabot Lodge, and 262 Write-In votes (0.28%) for George Romney.
  14. ^ Includes 22,372 Write-In votes (4.94%) for Lyndon Johnson, and 5,105 Write-In votes (1.13%) for George Wallace.
  15. ^ Committed to Governor William Scranton of Pennsylvania.
  16. ^ This is an assumption; a source from infers that the three Districts listed had not yet had their Conventions by April 29, yet another source infers that by May 1 the selections had been completed in all the Districts. However, it is known that these delegates were Uncommitted as only four Committed delegates were elected in Tennessee, and those are accounted for.
  17. ^ While a resolution endorsing Goldwater was adopted at the convention, the delegates remained Uncommitted.
  18. ^ Initially Uncommitted; later Committed to Senator John Williams of Delaware.
  19. ^ All votes for Governor James Rhodes of Ohio.
  20. ^ Committed to Governor James Rhodes of Ohio.
  21. ^ Committed to Governor George Romney of Michigan.
  22. ^ Includes 316 Write-In votes (0.23%) for Lyndon Johnson, 293 Write-In votes (0.21%) for George Wallace, and 132 Write-In votes (0.10%) for George Romney.
  23. ^ Includes 2,448 Write-In votes (0.85%) for Robert Kennedy, and 137 Write-In votes (0.05%) for Hubert Humphrey.
  24. ^ Technically the votes were for John Steffey, who represented Barry Goldwater in the primary.
  25. ^ All votes were for Robert E. Ennis.
  26. ^ Instructed, though not Committed, to Winthrop Rockefeller of Arkansas.
  27. ^ While Uncommitted, the vast majority of the delegates elected were supportive of Goldwater's candidacy.
  28. ^ 10 Delegates were appointed earlier by the Republican State Committee.
  29. ^ While Uncommitted, at least six were leaning towards Goldwater; two more leaned towards Nixon.
  30. ^ Technically there was a split, 4-4, between those who supported Goldwater and Moderates.
  31. ^ There was an expectation that these delegates would be won over by Scranton, but at the time they were still Uncommitted.
  32. ^ Partial result only covering 1,857 of 2,495 precincts. While there were later projections of the number of delegates elected to the county conventions, they were not broken down.
  33. ^ Includes 5,058 Write-In votes for President Ronald Reagan at (5.00%).
  34. ^ Includes 3,595 Write-in votes for President Ronald Reagan at (0.57%).
  35. ^ Partial result; only 95% of the vote was tallied in the source.
  36. ^ Partial result; only 83% of the vote was tallied in the source.
  37. ^ Partial result; only 44% of the vote was tallied in the source, and hard numbers weren't given.
  38. ^ Raw vote totals were reported only in part.
  39. ^ Partial result; 4 caucus locations of 397 remained outstanding.
  40. ^ Partial result; an estimated 48 precincts were still outstanding. Raw votes or delegate totals were also seemingly never reported, only percentages.
  41. ^ Partial result; results from only 158 of 195 communities were tallied, leaving about 19% of the delegates still outstanding.
  42. ^ Key:
    A – all adults
    RV – registered voters
    LV – likely voters
    V – unclear
  43. ^ 1,271 votes were for Robert G. Ross.
  44. ^ 25 votes were for Robert La Follette.

  1. ^ Note: New York held a delegate primary, in which delegates to the National Convention were directly elected; no candidate for the nomination was actually on the ballot. The delegate results are based on the pledges of the delegates elected in the primary. The vote itself is also incomplete, with many Districts missing entirely.
  2. ^ Note: The vote in the Nevada Primary isn't known, only the winner.
  3. ^ 605 votes were for Robert G. Ross.
  4. ^ Note: The Presidential Preference Primary and the Delegate Primary were held separately; despite personally carrying the State, Taft's delegates lost the At-Large contest to Roosevelt delegates.
