Tennessee State Route 6

State Route 6 (SR 6) is an unsigned north–south state highway in Middle Tennessee, running from the Alabama state line in Lawrence County to the Kentucky state line in Sumner County.[1] The designation can be found on mileposts, however.

Lawrence CountyEdit

SR 6 begins in Lawrence County at the Alabama state line, concurrent with US 43, as an undivided 4-lane highway. US 43/SR 6 goes north to pass through Saint Joseph, where it becomes concurrent with SR 227, before turning northeast and passing through Loretto, where the concurrency with SR 227 ends, bypassing the downtown areas of both cities. US 43/SR 6 continue northeast through farmland and rural areas to pass through Leoma, where it has an intersection with SR 98, before having an interchange with US 64/SR 15 (Lawrenceburg Highway) and entering Lawrenceburg. US 43/SR 6 go north as Locust Avenue to pass through neighborhoods before coming to the eastern edge of downtown at an intersection with US 64 Bus. (Gaines Street). They then pass through a major business district and industrial area before leaving Lawrenceburg and continuing northeast through rural areas. US 43/SR 6 pass through Ethridge, bypassing downtown on the eastern side, before widening to a divided highway and turning northward. The highway then enters Summertown and has an intersection with SR 240 before crossing into Maury County.

Maury CountyEdit

US 43/SR 6 have an intersection with SR 20 before leaving Summertown and winding its way northeast through wooded and hilly terrain. The highway then re-enters farmland and has an intersection SR 243 to enter Mount Pleasant. They then have an interchange via an access road with Mount Joy Road before bypassing downtown to the west and having an intersection SR 166. US 43/SR 6 then have two more interchanges, one for SR 243 and Maury County Airport, and the other for Zion Road, before leaving Mount Pleasant and entering Columbia. The highway has an interchange with US 412, US 412 Bus., and SR 99 (Hampshire Pike), where it becomes concurrent with US 412 before completely bypassing the city on the western and northern sides. They then have an intersection with SR 50 (Williamsport Pike) before turning east to have an interchange with Industrial Park Road. US 43/US 412/SR 6 then have an interchange with SR 7 (Santa Fe Pike) before crossing a bridge over the Duck River and coming to an intersection with US 31/US 412 Bus./SR 99 (N Garden Street), where US 43 and US 412 Bus. end, US 412 and SR 99 rejoin to continue east to I-65, and SR 6 joins US 31. They continue through some neighborhoods before leaving Columbia and having an intersection with SR 246. US 31/SR 6 then enter Spring Hill and have an interchange with an access road to Spring Hill Manufacturing. They then have an interchange with SR 396 before narrowing to 2-lanes to pass through downtown and have an intersection with SR 247. US 31/SR 6 then pass through a business district and suburban areas before leaving Spring Hill and crossing into Williamson County.

Williamson CountyEdit

US 31/SR 6 pass through rural areas in Thompson's Station to temporarily widen to a 4-lane and have an interchange with I-840 (Exit 28). It then has an interchange with SR 248 before narrowing to 2-lanes and passing through rural areas before having an intersection SR 397 and entering Franklin. They pass through a business district as Columbia Avenue before passing through neighborhoods and entering downtown, where they have an intersection with SR 246 (7th Avenue), US 431/SR 106 (5th Avenue), and a short concurrency with SR 96 (3rd Avenue). US 31/SR 6 continue northeast through downtown as Main Street before crossing a bridge over the Harpeth River to become Franklin Road and pass through neighborhoods and a business district. It then has another intersection with SR 397 before passing through more neighborhoods and having an intersection with SR 441 to leave Franklin and enter Brentwood. US 31/SR 6 pass through several neighborhoods to have an intersection with SR 253, where it widens to a 4-lane undivided highway, before entering downtown and having an intersection with SR 252. The highway then crosses into Davidson County.

Davidson CountyEdit

US 31/SR 6 immediately have an intersection with SR 254 (Old Hickory Boulevard) before entering Oak Hill and running parallel to I-65. It travels through several neighborhoods as Franklin Pike before having an intersection with SR 255 (Harding Place). US 31/SR 6 then passes through more neighborhoods to have an interchange with SR 155 (Thompson Lane/Woodson Boulevard) and enter Berry Hill. The highway then passes under the interchange between I-65 and I-440 before passing through a business district. US 31/SR 6 then enters Nashville and passes through suburban areas before passing under the interchange between I-40 and I-65 and entering downtown. It then comes to a roundabout with US 31A/US 41/US 41A/US 70S/SR 1/SR 11 (Lafayette Street), where they become concurrent with US 41/US 41A/US 70S/SR 1/SR 11. The highway becomes 8th Avenue S and goes northwest to come to an intersection with US 70/SR 24 (Broadway), where US 70S/SR 1 splits off and goes southwest along US 70/SR 24 and US 431 joins the concurrency. The highway becomes Rosa L. Parks Boulevard and turns into an expressway for a short distance before it comes to an intersection where US 41A breaks off along SR 12 (Rosa L. Parks Boulevard) at the Tennessee State Capitol. The highway then winds its way east as James Robertson Parkway to cross the Victory Memorial Bridge over the Cumberland River to have a partial interchange with I-24 (Exit 48). They then come to an interchange with Spring Street, where US 31 splits into US 31E and US 31W, US 41/US 431/SR 11 follows US 31W, and SR 6 follows US 31E onto a freeway (Ellington Parkway). US 31E/SR 6 passes through neighborhoods and suburban areas as it has interchanges with Cleveland Street, Douglas Avenue, E Trinity Lane, Hart Lane, and Broadmoor Drive before coming to an interchange and short concurrency with SR 155 (Briley Parkway; Exits 14 and 15). US 31E/SR 6 narrows to a 4-lane undivided highway (Gallatin Pike) to enter Madison, where it passes through business districts and suburban areas before coming to an intersection with SR 45 (Old Hickory Boulevard). The highway then continues north through suburban areas to pass by Rivergate Mall and another business district before turning east and crossing into Sumner County.

Sumner CountyEdit

US 31E/SR 6 immediately enters Hendersonville and has an interchange with SR 386 (Vietnam Veterans Boulevard; Exit 3) to pass through business districts and neighborhoods to have an intersection with SR 258 (New Shackle Island Road). The highway then passes through downtown downtown before crossing a bridge over an arm of Old Hickory Lake and continuing east through a business district and neighborhoods. US 31E/SR 6 then have another interchange with SR 386 (Vietnam Veterans Boulevard; Exit 9) before leaving Hendersonville and passing through rural areas as it turns northeast. It then crosses another arm of Old Hickory Lake to enter Gallatin and passes through several neighborhoods to come to an interchange with SR 109. US 31E/SR 6 then pass through business district before reaching downtown at an intersection with SR 25, SR 174, and unsigned SR 386, where it begins a short concurrency with SR 174 and bypasses downtown to the northwest. It passes through another business district, where SR 174 splits off, before passing through neighborhoods and leaving Gallatin. US 31E/SR 6 narrows to 2-lanes and continues northeast through rural areas to pass through Bethpage and Bransford, where it has an intersection with US 231/SR 376 and becomes concurrent with US 231. They then pass through the mountains of the Highland Rim before entering Westmoreland and having an intersection with SR 52. US 31E/US 231/SR 6 then bypass downtown to the east before leaving Westmoreland and continuing north to the Kentucky state line, where SR 6 ends and US 31E/US 231 continue north Scottsville.
