Improving Navigation to Women's football Articles edit

On 22 June 2006, User:Johan_Elisson replaced (via redirect) the Women's football template with Template:International women's football, a newly-created template, apparently in an effort to mirror the men's international football template.

Johan's new template is for a very limited, specific sub-topic of women's football. As a sub-topic, the International template ignores local, non-FIFA, U-17, U-20 football and women's national teams. It deleted some navigational links to general/non-international women's football articles and added others. The major change was not discussed with the community beforehand. Nor were contributors notified.

This discussion is an opportunity for all interested editors to give input about the remedy proposed below.

PROPOSAL

  1. Restore the Women's football template for use on articles relevant to the subject of Women's football (soccer).
  2. Add the FIFA World Player of the Year#List of female winners link to the Women's football template.
  3. Keep the International women's football template for use on articles relevant to the subject of Women's football around the world.

Reply from Johan Elisson edit

User:Deeb wants to remove the, what she thinks, bias against women's football. I wanted to help by making things equally good for both sides, by standardizing the template to be the equivalent of the male template. Having a template cluttered with links spanning from List of football (soccer) players to FIFA U-17 Women's World Championship to List of women's football clubs does not look good. I plan to create the equivalent of the men's international club football for women's articles, a template which addresses some of the conserns above. – Elisson Talk 12:40, 28 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks John. I appreciate your good intentions and usually very useful contributions. You've done a great deal for football articles. I look forward to discussing future major changes before they are implemented. -Deebki 19:25, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Sexist diferenciation but recognition of both edit

I did add a "See also International men's football" in the far corner of this template and the viceverse in the men template--Feroang (talk) 00:21, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
