Header styling on child/embedded infoboxesEdit

Copying this here from Infobox station, as here is perhaps more appropriate. Mackensen raised the concern of child infoboxes not inheriting parent styles, for example at Gyulhyeon station. Jackmcbarn suggested a local infobox solution (which I don't quite follow yet, but that could be the better solution here). My idea was to fix this in {{Infobox}}, as I'm not sure it's a solely localised issue (ref this discussion). To do this I sketched up Special:Diff/981456262/983879701 in Module:Infobox/sandbox, which ensures child infoboxes inherit parent header styling when parent is using |overridechilds=yes. Post-change example visible at Special:Permalink/986565058. Thoughts? ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 17:18, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Note that diff is more a concept. If we think the idea is good, it will need some slight adjustment to obey |overridechilds= properly. Because the child doesn't know if the parent has that property set, really it needs to include its CSS along with /CHILDHEADER/, and the parent needs to replace that depending on its |overridechilds= (which only it can know). But otherwise, I think the solution would work. It may well cause some invalid CSS on infoboxes embedded as "child" when they're not actually children, but that's a misuse anyway, and it shouldn't cause styling to behave differently (just an inspect element error). Infobox galaxyEdit

Hello, the "infobox galaxy" should have the "credit" parameter for the image, just like other astronomical infoboxes such as open cluster, globular cluster, nebula, etc. Seems like that would be a simple addition, but I've never modified a template before. Assambrew (talk) 23:56, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

Updated the template, issue resolved. Assambrew (talk) 19:28, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

Template-protected edit request on 20 December 2020Edit

Okay, we're done here. Primefac (talk) 23:26, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

When it links "Preview release" to Software_release_life_cycle, (as it does from, e.g. Active Agenda) it should be tweaked to link to Software_release_life_cycle#Beta. (And a tip in the doc to where the bulk of the source is would be handy. But that's not part of this request.) 50.201.195.170 (talk) 18:16, 20 December 2020 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Primefac (talk) 18:56, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
I deduce this relates to Template:Infobox software, in which case you should place your request on Template talk:Infobox software. I would just make the change, but others might have different views. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:43, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
Not done Duplicate request, already requested at Template talk:Infobox software. * Pppery * it has begun... 22:47, 3 January 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply, MSGJ. Someone's code is fucked up. I was on the page in question when I clicked to make the edit request. Grr! Working backward... done.
Primefac: I was clear about the changes I want to be made, other than due to the fault of someone else's code:
{{helpme}} => figured out. I clicked on Edit request here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Infobox&action=edit. (Main Infobox) You may need to visit it while logged out to see it. Primefac or someone please look into fixing whatever broken code there It wasn't broken code that sent my request here. (Yes, I did the right thing: I followed the instructions.)

You're in the wrong place. You want Template talk:Infobox software. — JJMC89(T·C) 06:42, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

Oh, I get it. You don't care. "I clicked on Edit request here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Infobox&action=edit. I did the right thing: I followed the instructions.

But you've identified the sub-template where the fix would happen, and demand that its talk page must be where it is discussed? You like making people wrong for following instructions?

Cuz wow! I was so misled I would have been better off with no help.--50.201.195.170 (talk) 21:56, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Done Wasn't requested at Template talk:Infobox software 'till long after request here.--50.201.195.170 (talk) 22:59, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

They may appear to have been unhelpful, but the editors above were giving you the correct advice. Infobox software is not a subtemplate (we call it a "wrapper" template) and it is important that requests are made on the right talk page so others can comment and see what changes are being made. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:43, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
Agreed. Why my OP ended up here instead of in the "right" place initially is baffling.--50.201.195.170 (talk) 15:23, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

T271288 - Cropping of Infobox text in pdf filesEdit

please check Aklapper's review of task T271288 on Phabricator, that requires fix for an Infobox display problem, that is manifesting in pdf files.. Gfigs (talk) 23:52, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

@Gfigs: Presumably, this is related to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Cropping of Infobox text in pdf files - followup. Please don't post additional messages on different pages without linking back to at least one of the existing messages, see WP:MULTI. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 10:55, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
ok, will do..initial Teahouse post was archived, unfortunately..please check comments in T271288 for other linking pages, thanks..apologies.. Gfigs (talk) 11:37, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

While Aklapper is right to point out that it's an issue for Common.css for desktop, we basically don't do the styles for mobile (today, anyway; it's in a future, just don't know which future). I'm not really sure why he closed it, accordingly. --Izno (talk) 21:39, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Either way, maybe Jdlrobson can help? --Izno (talk) 21:41, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
There is a related problem on Timeless: the infoboxes are taking up full width when they should only be taking part of the screen. Aasim (talk) 00:58, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
That issue is more likely to be WP:VPT#Problems with Tables and Infoboxes right now. --Izno (talk) 03:47, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
ok then. here is archived post Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)/Archive_186#Cropping_of_Infobox_text_in_pdf_files_-_followup Gfigs (talk) 20:48, 10 January 2021 (UTC)
updated here Template_talk:Marriage#Cropping_of_Template:Marriage_Infobox_text,_within_PDF_files Gfigstalk 05:27, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
there are some text display problems in Infoboxes, within PDF files (Page Size: ISO A1 & others). namely, cropping of last letter of words on right margin. and some words appearing below bottom margin of cells.. Gfigstalk 13:16, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
