Please change

The reason being is because the SVG is not accurate as it is a modern digitized reconstruction that takes creative liberties. The PNG is a photograph of the actual flag thus it is more factually accurate. Also, please change:

to
| flag alias-civil = Merchant and marine flag of Maine.svg
As it is not a naval ensign but a civil one and it links to a nonexistent redlinked page anyway; and lastly add:

- Illegitimate Barrister, is there a consensus for this change? I see that the flag has been changed at Flag of Maine (1901–09), but I'm not aware of any discussion around this. It seems unusual to me to use an actual scan of a flag rather than the artistic representation. – bradv🍁 00:12, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
- I actually wasn't the one that changed it on that article, that would be @MaineVexman:. As for consensus, my understanding it's only required for controversial edits. I'll try and modify the PNG to make it less scanny while still retaining its authenticity and accuracy. The drawing was done in vector format traced directly from an original photograph and is quite accurate. I am uncertain what the issue is. As for the change in nomenclature of the Marine flag, it is called the "Merchant and Marine Flag" in the law and is actually supposed to be the State Ensign in actually. What I'm trying to say is the PNG looks more like the real thing than the Vector does and thus the template should use it over the Vector one. Allow me to demonstrate by comparing and contrasting below:

As all can clearly see demonstrated above, the PNG (specifically the tree) looks more like the real thing than the Vector version does. The Vector variant takes artistic license compared to an actual photograph of the real thing; the tree is too simplified compared to the real one (which is more detailed). Perhaps our resident flag expert @Fry1989: can better elucidate. As for the ensign, I rescind that request in light of changes to the file over on Wikimedia Commons rendering the request moot. Though "flag alias-naval" should be changed to "flag alias-civil" as the former parameter is supposed to be for military warship ensigns and Maine does not have a standing armed naval military force.
