Instructions in tag edit

I think we should minimize the "instructions" section. As a template, it should be as clean and minimal as possible. Mind if I revert the revert? - PatrickFisher 22:25, 20 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

The question is how we can get people to actually list the pages they use this template on. This is not as important here as it is on Template:Notenglish, but we should make sure people know that the template alone doesn't help very much. I don't know if anybody actually checks Category:Wikipedia articles needing cleanup after translation. So, I do mind. I think the instructions are fine, we should just make sure the template doesn't stay on the pages for so long (some articles have been tagged for a very long time, unfortunately). Bug??? edit

The link in the template box leads to the wrong place. For exmple, I have just created HMS Hyacinth (K84) page and used this template.

The link leads to Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English which is pretty useless: it is in English already! What is really necessary: somebody, who will correct the style. There is NO necessity in his/her proficiency in Russian at all, because I am at hand.

I would better see there a link to Wikipedia:Pages needing assistance or to the Category:Wikipedia articles needing cleanup after translation.

Incorrect grammar in template - please fix! edit

If you add the parameter into the template, e.g., {{Cleanup-translation|Fooian}}, you get the following message:

This article contains translated text and needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in Fooian.

This is incorrect. You need someone approacting dual fluency in Fooian and English.

Please could someone with the knowledge of how to fix a template such as this add those two words which are necessary for the template's message to make sense? Grutness...wha? 00:29, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Decided to try to do it myself. I think it works (it did when I tested it. If there are problems with it feel free to revert. Grutness...wha? 05:53, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Seems to work, yeah. I would have done it when I made the other change, but hadn't seen your message; sorry about that. Si Trew (talk) 06:49, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

A way to hide the instructions for listing on WP:PNTCU edit

If I put this template on the page and also list it on WP:PNTCU as instructed, I would like a way to hide the "If you put this template here..." instructions so that people don't waste time wondering if it has been listed. I don't know how to make this happen, but I envision something like "|instructions=hide" as part of the template's variables. Can someone here make that happen? Son of a gun! This feature already exists. It's just not documented. OK, now I'm going to be bold and document it.Jonesey95 (talk) 03:15, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I added documentation for the listed parameter. As far as I can tell, it works as I described it. I don't understand the template code completely, so if there is some additional subtlety that needs to be documented, please do so. Jonesey95 (talk) 03:37, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Checking the language names edit

There is currently no test on the language param to see if it is a valid one. Downside is, it just puts whatever language you specify into the field, which could result in a nonexistent category via the hidden category link in the code. Pretty sure there's a lang-code-to-name, or lang-name-to-code template or module out there, which could be used to test for this case, and if the lang name was misspelled or otherwise did not match the list, it could be assigned to the existing catch-all parent category, instead of to one that does not exist. Template:Pnt notice edit

This template calls "Template:Pnt notice", which has unnecessary usage of &nbsp causing the template to be overly wide on mobile. -- LCU ActivelyDisinterested transmissions °co-ords° 13:59, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
