Names in Wikipedia convention edit

I'm not sure where to post this but here's the specific situation: I didn't remember Kentridge's first name so I just wrote "Kentridge" in the search space. All I got was a full-page article on a Kentridge High School in Kent, Washington, USA, for Heaven's sweet sake! After using a search engine to find the first name, I typed in "William Kentridge" and found this article. So famous people seem to be listed by alphabetical order of first names, like lists of friends in the address books of 15-year-old schoolgirls. (Apologies to 15-year-old schoolgirls: what you do is perfectly appropriate for what you do.) Am I supposed to go through a list of 5000 Williams? This is utterly cretinous! Ordinarily, you would have seen a list of subjects with "Kentridge" in their titles and even in their bodies. However, another user created a "redirect" page turning the word "Kentridge" into a specific pointer to the high school. I have remedied this by turning it into a "disambiguation" page which currently lists all articles that include the word in their title. If you want to search for a subject and find yourself at the wrong article, you can bypass it by going into "advanced search". (If you want to talk about this further, please drop by my talk page. Having dealt with the copyright concerns, I'll be moving on. :)) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:46, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reverse infringement edit

This article was quite properly tagged for resemblance to [1] in December 2009; however, investigation reveals that this is almost certainly a case of reverse infringement. Telling is this edit in May 2006. At the time the sections beginning "The political content and unique techniques of Kentridge’s work..." was added, the preceding material had already been present in the article for some time. We see the seeds of the paragraph that begins "In 1989, Kentridge created his first animated work" in this edit of September 2005. That external version also includes copy-editing done by a third contributor in August 2008. Such signs of natural evolution of the material here strongly suggests that it is Wikipedia's contributors whose materials are being misused. Individuals interested in protesting this misappropriation of Wikipedia's content can consult Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks for suggested handling. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:35, 16 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

edit request edit

In 2012, William Kentridge was invited to serve as a mentor for the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, an international philanthropic programme that pairs masters in their disciplines with emerging talents for a year of one-to-one creative exchange. Out of a very gifted field of candidates, Kentridge chose young Colombian artist Mateo López as his protégé.[1] RMP2014 (talk) 15:53, 14 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

This has a brief secondary mention in The Telegraph, seems a minor notable addition to the bio, unless other editors find otherwise. Dl2000 (talk) 02:26, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
