"Supporters" edit

The sources regarding "supporters [alleged]" are very weak and in direct contradiction with their actual proven opponents (the KRG and CTJF-OIR) and should be removed promptly until actual evidence is provided. I mean, come on, PJAK? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.93.178.122 (talk) 18:03, 8 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

This article refers to an allegation that the White Flags are U.S.-backed but only cites in support https://iicss.iq, a source of dubious credibility. Is this a reliable source? This article appears to contain the only citation to that source on the English Wikipedia. And to my knowledge, no established reliable source repeats the allegation in question. In fact, reliable sources have actually documented confrontations between the U.S. and the White Flags which tend to refute the idea that they are collaborators.

I'm wondering: is there any good reason to keep the allegation of U.S. support in light of these considerations? I welcome and appreciate any input. -- ExParte talk 05:03, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I see no reason the keep it. --Semsûrî (talk) 08:33, 10 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
(Summoned by bot) A quite intelligible Google translation of the cited webpage makes clear that, as of two years ago, the U.S. was not an ally of White Flags, but considered it a potential threat. The translation indicates the webpage is published by the Islamic Center for Strategic Studies, which cites as its source The Washington Free Beacon ("Bacon" in the translation) of March 14, 2018 (https://freebeacon.com/national-security/shadowy-terrorist-group-emerges-iraq/). The Beacon article states: "A new group in Iraq called White Flag is coming under close scrutiny by U.S. intelligence agencies amid concerns the terrorist organization could become a regional successor to the Islamic State." Therefore, it seems manifestly incorrect for the infobox of the WP article to list the U.S. as an ("alleged") "ally" of White Flags. As a formal matter, this "RfC" does not quite meet the recommended standard of neutral language, so we might just consider this an ordinary discussion in pursuit of consensus.
