mine mill/ caw merger was not in 1967 but in the 1990's I believe 1992 was the date...

There appear to be authoritative sources for both spellings. Google gives a similar number of links for each spelling (2,930 for McParlan, and 2,220 for McParland)

This individual appears in a number of places -- Western Federation of Miners and Molly Maguires for example. But with different spellings.

This appears to be a dilemma for which someone needs to make a decision-- so a page for the individual can be created. Richard Myers 10:31, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Strikes of the Western Federation of Miners edit

I have discovered that Western Federation of Miners does not link to Cripple Creek miners' strike of 1894. This is rather strange, but of course, easy to fix.

However, there were two strikes of the WFM that were very significant, one in 1894 and another from 1903-1905. This latter strike is discussed on the WFM page under a lengthy section titled "Organizing the industry."

I am hereby pitching the idea that the 1903 strike should have a page of its own (because the history of that particular strike is incredibly detailed and rich, and deserves to be told,) and that the three articles ought to be edited together for smooth transitions and clarity. Does anyone else think there should be more coverage of the strong association this union had with the Communist Party? I was shocked when I heard that. While the Western Federation of Miners existed (under that name), the Communist Party didn't yet exist, at least not as a viable entity. Most of the folks of socialist persuasion in the era of the WFM were divided between the Socialist Party and the Socialist Labor Party. The era of Mine-Mill is a different story, but the distinction needs to be drawn. We ought to avoid alleging there is a "serious problem" without carefully delineating the problem.
