Any objection if I move this to VfB Stuttgart, for readability? Most other football club articles have the "FC", "AC", "CF" etc. abbreviated. sjorford 15:25, 21 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Vfb stands for Verein für Ballspiele as it were Association for ball plays —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.56.78.194 (talk) 17:06, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I second Sjorford's suggestion. Dale Arnett 17:03, 21 Jun 2004 (UTC)

it is quite long. but accuracy is desirable in an encyclopedia. and how does readability suffer? Badanedwa 07:40, Jun 22, 2004 (UTC)

Well, not readability exactly, but most people know it as VfB Stuttgart, and I had to look at the title twice to work out what it was about. The full accurate name will still be at the start of the opening paragraph. sjorford 08:15, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)
  • as i assumed, then. additionally, retaining the full name at the start is good. additionally, it comes to mind that a redirect may constitute an article "title", if not a title. neutral now. Badanedwa 18:40, Jun 22, 2004 (UTC)

Why have they hired mexican players?

Well, why should they not? Pardo ans Osorio are doing a great job in the Bundesliga and everybody in Stuttgart is very happy to have them in the team. I think the VfB decided to hire them after the FIFA World Cup 2006, where they both did quite a good job. By the way: Pardo and Osorio are the first mexican players ever in the Bundesliga. Maybe this fact could be taken into the article. Greetings from Germany!

What is the rough translation of the club's full name, including the e. V.? I'm just curious. -- Grant.Alpaugh 06:08, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Note: my German is of schoolboy level only. Bewegungsspiele doesn't have an exact translation. Bewegung means "exercise" in a sporting context, a paraphrased translation of "Bewegungsspiele" would be "athletic games" or something similiar. e.V. (Eingetragener Verein) is a standard suffix given to registered voluntary associations, indicating their legal status. So Verein für Bewegungsspiele Stuttgart 1893 translates roughly as "Stuttgart Voluntary Association for athletic games 1893", and the e.V. is a suffix like Inc., but for an unincorporated organisation. Sweet, thanks. -- Grant.Alpaugh 16:06, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
My German-English dictionary has Bewegungspiel as "active game". I guess the point being that a lot of German clubs adopted names along these lines in order to distinguish themselves from the gymnastics clubs that dominated sports and physical activity in the country at the time (late 19th-early 20th centuries). Which is how you also end up with stuff like Rasenspiel or Rasensport which literaly means grass or lawn games/sports (in the sense of games played on lawns or grass) but comes across best in English as outdoor games or outdoor sports; Verein für Leibesübungen which is Club for Physical Exercise/Physical Education; Turn- und Sport (TuS) for Gymnastics and Sport; Turn- und Sport Verein (TSV) for Gymnastics and Sport Club, etc., etc. I have some recollection of someone maybe having started an article somewhere on naming conventions for German football clubs (beat me to the punch), but I can't remember where it might be. Might have to have a look around and freshen it up some. Wiggy! (talk) 17:35, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wrong linking/interlink of "Christos Papadopoulos" edit

The person who is linked to the name Christos Papadopoulos is not the actual fitness coach. They don't have anything to do with each other. The real fitness coach doesn't have any Wiki-Page, yet. It would be nice of the author to take out the wrong linking. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sportwiss72 (talkcontribs) 20:13, 26 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Head Coach edit

Bruno Labbadia is no longer the head coach of VfB Stuttgart, instead, it is Sebastian Hoeneß. It even says it in both his personal article and the list of coaches since 1920 on this article.

The issue in question is located at the bottom of this article.
