English translation of the name

A more correct translation would be "Association for the Conservation of Natural Monuments in the Netherlands", although the concept "natural monuments" sounds rather strange in English. The association's website does not have an English version - but that may be just as well, since Dutch organisations tend to make up their own, usually incorrect English titles without bothering to have them checked by a native speaker. People then say "that's what they call themselves in English, so we have to accept it", even though English isn't their native language. If I was going to call it anything in English it would be "the Dutch Association for Nature Conservation" - no need for "Netherlands", which sounds faintly pompous in English, and "Dutch" is perfectly clear, not to say more "natural" (!). Despite what many Dutch people think, "Dutch" does not have negative connotations in English, except in a handful of now largely obsolete phrases like "Dutch courage" and "Dutch treat", nor is it ever mistaken for "German" ("Deutsch").213.127.210.95 (talk) 16:21, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
