But why did it fold?

Another pro wrestler, Steve "Dr. Death" Williams, played for the New Jersey Generals prior to becoming a "World Champion" in the Universal Wrestling Federation, run by Bill Watts.

The Pittsburgh Maulers never finished with a record of 7-11. Also, they were only in the league for one season in 1984 when their record was 3-15.

Splitting

This article should be split into 2013 and 1982 sections rather than just having a section labelled revival. As the league comes closer to its 2013 revival, and once that time comes, the 2013 league will need far more than just a section of an article about a league 30 years ago.

We should wait and see if the new USFL actually comes to fruition before splitting off a separate article, imo. There have been several other spring/summer football leagues announced over the past few years that never kicked off at all. Zeng8r (talk) 00:38, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

USFL Pages Merger Proposal

Hello all - with FOX Sports settling their lawsuit with the original owners of the USFL earlier this year (2023) after gaining the League's copyrights the year prior, the current iteration of the USFL is now being counted as an official continuation of the original USFL, with team histories and records carrying over, and the League's past is now being officially acknowledged in broadcasts, social media posts, merchandising, and more. I believe that in order to minimize confusion to newer fans and to create a more accurate resource, all of the 2022 USFL pages for active teams and the League's main page itself should be merged with the original USFL pages as they are now, in essence, one in the same, making the "original" USFL officially active. With that said, all of the prior USFL Playoffs and Championships are now officially counted as well, so even in the modern day, the Michigan Panthers still have their 1983 Championship, the Stars have their two titles from 1984-85, etc. Finally, all of the revived franchises (who still carry the exact names and lineages of the originals) are still listed as separate entities, which bugs me to no end. I've talked with several other USFL fans online, and they'd all like to see the same thing as well, so if this could please be approved and worked on across the board, that would be greatly appreciated.

These franchise's pages would be updated to show that they are a direct continuation of their original 1984 counterparts as one united franchise history instead of a separate entity, and all of their team records and history would be updated as such as they are now active (excluding Tampa Bay).

All other franchises would be listed as dormant/inactive, or folded depending on if they are brought back in future seasons or not.

Also, a new article should be created for the USFL Championship Game, and the history of the USFL's Championship Games should go from 1983-85, then jump to the 2022 season and onward as that's when the League was revived and the lineage picks up. Bgilbert02 (talk) 21:13, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

United States Football League → United States Football League (1983–85) – There was a new league from 2022 to 2023, which had the same name. Re-naming this page, would help further clarify that fact. • Oppose, to error on the side of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC in terms of longer-term significance. The current hatnote already clarifies that this was the original USFL, versus the new league that only lasted two seasons from 2022 to 2023. The newer league was essentially a "reboot", using the brands of teams from the previous incarnation. And there currently seems to be more historical books, TV documentaries, and other resources on the original 1980s league (for example, the ESPN 30 for 30 episode Small Potatoes: Who Killed the USFL? suddenly pops into my mind, featuring that infamous former 1980s USFL team owner).
