Yes, dogs were the main domesticated pack animal in North America before European contact. Eskimo dogs, Tahl Tan bear dogs, chihuahuas, Mexican hairless dogs, and Carolina dogs are all examples of indigenous dog breeds. The reversion of my edit in this section re-introduces a factual error. The cited source does not support the assertion that Lewis and Clark's travois trails are still visible today. That notion is highly unlikely. It does not even support the assertion that they used travois... though that is not at all unlikely. It says that various Native Amercans used travois over years on the same path that Lewis and Clark used, and that that long use left ruts still visible today. I won't re-add the information, as that way lies edit war, but someone else should, or a different source should be found that supports the facts being stated. 209.6.229.72 (talk) 00:09, 14 October 2014 (UTC) I introduced the travois tracks topic.
