Hope you don't mind that I've removed everything nonessential. Disambiguation pages shouldn't include any encyclopedic content, but only enough information to let the reader identify the correct link to an article as quickly as possible. Ideally, there would be no links pointing to disambiguation pages at all.

Does Carpatho-Ukraine belong here too? Michael Z. 2005-12-1 01:14 Z

I find a little info at dab pages useful, but if the community sees it differently, so be it. I am not sure whether Carpatho-Ukraine belongs here. Probalbly it doesn't since it is never referred to as simply Transcarpathia. --Irpen 01:17, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Redirect to Carpathian Ruthenia edit

I just had a look at what links here with the intent of re-routing links so they point directly to the target. I ignored talk pages, but I think that every single link in an article refers to the region, Carpathian Ruthenia. Even though Transcarpathian Oblast sounds similar, it appears that the oblast is almost never called Transcarpathia.

I suggest we turn this into a redirect. For the few other cases that come up, the top of the target page could have a note that says "Transcarpathia redirects here, for the Transcarpathian subdivision of Ukraine, see Zakarpattia Oblast." Michael Z. 2005-12-1 01:28 Z

To not merge, as the current structure allows for disambiguation of distinct topics. Klbrain (talk) 08:22, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

I propose merging Ciscarpathia, Ciscarpathian, Subcarpathia, Subcarpathian and Zakarpattia. As far as I can tell, these terms all refer to the same region. Any differences between the terms can be explained on the one page. Having separate disambiguation pages is very confusing and does nothing to assist users in understanding the terms. The functions of these six disambiguation pages can be served with the simple sentence, e.g., "Also known as,..." on one.

"Transcarpathia" appears to be the most-used term.

I'm not sure I can see the case here. There is some overlap, but all of the pages have substantial non-overlapping content, and at least one – Subcarpathia – has almost no overlap at all. – Uanfala (talk) 00:31, 13 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Uanfala: The terms Subcarpathia, Transcarpathia, and Zakarpattia are all synonyms for the same geographic area in modern-day Ukraine. The modern English term is "Transcarpathia". See this ngram for current usage.
Subcarpathia is just a historical name for the region. Zakarpattia is a transliteration. Ciscarpathia...I'm not sure what it refers to honestly. Willing to take input on that one... KaerbaqianRen💬 17:22, 13 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. These are DAB pages, not articles. They are intended to help readers find their way between articles with similar names. Synonymy or historical usage has no place on DAB pages, and should be explained in the relevant articles. Narky Blert (alt) (talk) 10:53, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I strongly disagree~!!
Transcarpathia is a translation of "Закарпатська/Zakarpatt'ska" in Ukrainian, i.e., over the Carpathian Mountain range. Russians and Ukrainians use this terminology as they see this area.
In Hungarian "Kárpátalja" translates as Sub-Carpathia or "foot of the mountains," after its geographic location below the Carpathian Mountain range; hence, the region is called Sub-Carpathia by Poles, Slovaks, Hungarians and Romanians. 70.110.138.203 (talk) 14:14, 8 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
