What do the daggers signify? Bonalaw 10:39, 12 Aug 2004 (UTC)

For example, during the 1970s, Tiger Beat's cover often resembled something taken out of the movie Hair.

What? Is this an attempt to be funny? Mike H 03:04, Oct 27, 2004 (UTC)

At least I had no idea the magazine was still running (as confirmed by the Street Smarts episode I watched on WGN last night)! I first heard of its legacy on VH1's Bubblegum Babylon documentary, and all the while until now, I thought it was defunct. --Slgrandson 15:00, 21 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

it's been voted New York Times best-seller magazine

Reads like an advertisement? edit

This article doesn't much seem like an advertisement as it is. I looked at an old version from Sept. 2007, and that sure did . . . but I think it's pretty neutral now. I'm going ahead to remove the box saying so, but I'm not heavily invested in this article, so if others disagree and re-instate the warning box, fine.

Done. I also removed the box about self-published sources, because there aren't any sources in that section at all, self-published or otherwise. In fact, the only external link on the whole page is one for the magazine's offical web site, and that's not improper. Incidentally, I'm pretty sure that inserting a big box in the middle of a sentence isn't kosher.

List of cover subjects edit

LOOONG AGO, about when I myself started the article without still being a member of wikipedia.org, I had an unorganized list of some people who had been on Tiger Beat.

Now that we have so many lists and even articles about lists (ex: List of Lockheed L-1011 operators, which I ABSOLUTELY LOVE to consult), shouldn't we have a list of people who have been on Tiger Beat's cover in this article? disambig edit

There's also an album by the band bangs with the title "Tiger Beat". Should that be mentioned here? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.239.181.58 (talk) 20:28, 4 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah Maybe it should because someone may want that page but they came to this one instead. Will someone put it in plz?

Name edit

Why is the magazine named Tiger Beat? Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 01:02, 7 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Just a theory: "Tiger" is likely a term for impossibly cute-so males who are popular subjects for pubescent girls' imaginations (e.g., Davy Jones, David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman, et alia), and "Beat" refers to a newspaper/radio/television reporter's particular topic of focus. Thus, a practical translation of "Tiger Beat" might be "Masturbation News for Girls." JoJo Anthrax (talk) 19:58, 18 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Great edit

Being British, only recently heard of this publication through a chance remark by Prof. Solomon on 3rd Rock from the Sun; so looked it up. The whole article is very funny particularly the opening paragraph,

Tiger Beat is an American teen fan magazine originally published by The Laufer Company, and marketed primarily to young frogs.

and also this:

"guys in their 20s singing 'La La' songs to 13-year-old girls."

which seems rather apposite in Dec 2017. Claverhouse (talk) 04:43, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
