In the news? edit

Was there any continued coverage of Walkers wal mart injury?., it seems to be a passing by of in the news and really not that notable, but id like other opinions if anyone cares to give them about merits of keeping in or not..My view is just using the source to say that during the 96 rush, it was not uncommon to hear that employees of deaprtment stores would be injured in an effort for patrons to get the doll (only spiced up wiki style of cours)Ottawa4ever (talk) 11:16, 14 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Price edit

The article mentions that the toy was snapped up by speculators and sold for great profits privately. No doubt. But it also says that "the dolls' short supply due to the unexpected demand lead stores to increase their price drastically", with no source. Did major mainstream stores actually raise their prices? Drastically? It seems implausible, probably illegal. Did this happen? And that's not how you spell led. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 16:44, 21 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

In popular culture edit

The toy has been parodied over the years, due in part of the high demand.

  • In a Christmas 2006 episode of MADtv, a fictional spin-off of the Tickle Me Elmo was called "Tickle Me Emo", which has Emo saying different emo sayings, cries & whines, and saying "I hate you!" three times; at one point, it even cuts itself. MADtv also featured a Sesame Street parody, where Elmo is portrayed as a terrorist now renamed himself to "Elmo TMX".
  • In the Futurama movie Into the Wild Green Yonder, there is a toy called "Tickle Me Bender" which is a toy version of Bender. Once tickled, the toy giggles, then makes an insult (such as "Quit touching my junk, pervert!"). According to Professor Farnsworth, the sales for the toy were "abysmal".
  • In the video game Sam & Max: Ice Station Santa, there's a parody of Tickle Me Elmo called "Torture Me Elmer."
  • A song by Circus Of Dead Squirrels is named "Elmo's Last Laugh."
  • In the South Park episode "Black Friday", a commercial is seen for a parody of Tickle Me Elmo called "Stop Touching Me Elmo" which makes fun of former performer Kevin Clash's child sex abuse case. Two episodes later ("Titties and Dragons"), the toy is seen among the dead shoppers and utters "Can Elmo smell your genitals?.
  • Jhonen Vasquez parodied Tickle Me Elmo as "Tickle Me Hellmo" in his comic book series Squee!.
  • In The Simpsons episode "Moe Baby Blues" Moe Syszlak tickles a "Tickle Me Elmo" doll belonging to Maggie and it says "Elmo says no means no" and slaps Moe.
  • In an episode of comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000, Crow T. Robot invents a doll called the "Tickle me Carlo Lombardi" which disturbs the other characters.
  • In the Fresh Off the Boat episode "Where are the Giggles?", Jessica sought to purchase Tickle Me Elmo for Evan to fulfill his Christmas gift wish.
  • In the Legends of Tomorrow episode "Beebo the God of War", a similar craze is shown to happen in 1992 over the fictional "Cuddle Me Beebo". A Beebo is sent through time and space to the Viking colony in America, which is then worshiped by the Vikings and inspires them to conquer the continent, leading to the timeline shifting so America becomes New Valhalla instead. The Legends eventually succeed in turning the Vikings around and destroying the Beebo. Another Beebo is later purchased by Firestorm for Martin Stein's daughter.
