This is not Thai Basil, Thai Basil is very distinctive. Many times Holy or Sacred basil is substitued, as it is here. It is very difficult to locate in the U.S. (preceding comment left on main article page by this user 71.219.73.183 ) Zero sharp 06:05, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Different? edit

Is Thai basil "cinnamon basil"? Is it "sweet basil"? Is Thai basil a specie or a variety? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.20.5.97 (talk) 03:28, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Cleaning up article edit

This article is in need of a good cleanup. Part of the problem is that the article both discusses Thai basil as one particular variety and discusses the three different types of basil used by Thais. Ideally, the latter would go into some other article, such as the Thai cuisine article or the main basil article (which itself needs to be rewritten to separate "basil" as a group (i.e., Ocimum spp.) from "sweet basil" (O. basilicum). In any event, it might be worthwhile to make this article about O. basilicum var. thyrsiflora, but devote a section to discussing the three varieties of basil in this article, since I would imagine a lot of people would expect to see that discussion in an article about Thai basil.
