When did 'teenagers', as a socio-economic entity, come into being? As I understand it the group didn't exist at the time of Rudolph Valentino; perhaps this could be mentioned in the writeup. Also, was Frank Sinatra really a 'teen idol'? I have no idea, but he doesn't seem to fit the traditional mould. Ashley Pomeroy 20:21, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

The "bobby-soxers" -- teenaged girls -- screamed and melted for Frank Sinatra just like they did for the Beatles. Sure, he turned into a whatever, but in back in the day he was definitely a teen idol. He made the "traditional mold". Ortolan88 21:14, 10 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Michael Jordan and other sports stars as teen idols

Is Michael Jordan considered a teen idol?

Well, back in the 90's Generation X and Y are fans of Michael Jordan especially living in the Chicago area. Many fans are crazy and Michael Jordan! Young Kids were wearing Bulls ("23") jerzees, buying Michael Jordan posters, shoes, etc.

Michael Jordan is an idol for all ages!

Removed list

There was an extensive list of teen idols since the 80s, which I feel is rather unnecessary, as it was purely an unsourced list of names, many of whom are doubtful. Young Athletes/Olympians as teen idols

In every Olympics (whether Summer or Winter), there are many teen sensation athletes who are considered teen idols. Example teen idols in sports like Sasha Cohen, Nadia Comaneci, Shawn Johnson, Michelle Kwan, Nastia Liukin, Carly Patterson, Michael Phelps, Megan Quann (Jendrick) - was a teen idol back in 2000. Mary Lou Retton, Shaun White, etc. All of these were popular for teenagers, they have gained popularity for the teen audiences. Current Idol Issue

I would like to ask how specific the target age of 'teen idol' is meant to be. The two first peoplein the current teen idol list target an age group of mainly 8-12, age afterward usually possessing a dislike or neutral outlook on them. I've never actually met a Jonas or Cyrus fan over 12, but I have met many that renounced their fandom after reaching 13 or 14. MasteroftheWord (talk) 14:26, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
