Jew? edit

This edit [1] by user "Vapour" [2] changed the meaning of Taito, from "far east" to "jew of far east". Can it be confirmed? Smells like a troll to me! - Stormwatch 15:14, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's made up. Reverting. 82.53.177.48 09:21, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
No it's not. Taito in original kanji is written as 太東 not 極東 (Kyokutou, Far East). 太 is the kanji character used to express phonetic pronounciation of Jew(Yuda 猶太). It's started off as Taito Trading. Quite few russian jews migrated to Japan after the revolution. Vapour
And Michael Kogan, founder of Taito, was Jewish.--128.120.173.67 15:53, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Split part of article into List of Taito games edit

I think this sounds like a good idea, as the list is quite comprehensive; any objections? Y control 16:28, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Location of Taito America edit

If it's ok, I know the excat Location of Taito. It was Wheeling, IL my hometown. I would like to add that part into the description. If anyone has a problem, please discuss it here. Neo Samus 19:32, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok I was going to change it, but I don't know how to link it to Wheeling, IL's article. I will make the change, but I'm unfamilar how to link to articles. I hate being a N00b! Neo Samus 19:41, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:TAITO logo.png edit

Image:TAITO logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

All links to Taito are for the game company, the other link is a ward in Tokyo (and trivia that aren't links). I added a dablink to the top of Taito Corporation. JohnnyMrNinja 01:13, 15 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I changed this to a primary topic redirect instead; it doesn't seem to hurt for the page to stay at this title, and now the links go where they're supposed to go. Dekimasuよ! 01:09, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
The move was two-fold, to move this page to the more appropriate title, and to get rid of an unnecessary dab page. I know you were trying to help but if moving Taito to Taito (disambiguation) was what I was requesting I would have done that myself. If a move request is made please take it literally. There are only two valid Taito articles to disambiguate from, the rest of that page is trivia. Now that it has been moved and the redirect changed I can't move it back, so if an admin closes this out, could they please delete the Taito (disambiguation) as well as move this page to Taito. ~ JohnnyMrNinja {talk} 04:10, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Were I to have taken the move request literally, it wouldn't have been a valid request, because the target wasn't a redirect. The discussion of whether or not the disambiguation page was needed would have had to come first. Anyway, the fact that there are no articles at this time for the other targets on Taito doesn't mean they are trivial; in particular, while the last one is almost certainly trivial, I doubt the one on the chiefly title is so, and it could perhaps have a useful bluelink to another existing article. You said on my talk page that the "Corporation" qualifier was unnecessary disambiguation, but even just because of the Tokyo ward, the qualifier is helpful. Since the links are pointing to the right place, I don't think a move is necessary. Dekimasuよ! 07:53, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
It appears that a speedy tag was reviewed and removed, which also indicates that this requires a further look before deleting the dab. Dekimasuよ! 08:04, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
I just reread what I wrote earlier and it sounded a little rude. I was frustrated and apologize. I did request a speedy delete, along with the dab at Irem. Irem was granted, but not this one, because the admin felt there could be something valid there, and I should do a move request instead. I searched for some link that stated what a Taito was in Samoan culture, a clear statement I could link to. I found none. So I removed the info because (from Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Disambiguation_pages "Only include related subject articles as long as the term in question is actually described on the target article. (For example, the Canton disambiguation page legitimately has an entry for Flag terminology.)" As no Wikipedia article states what a Taito is, and I could find no external site that states it in any clear manner, I removed it. ~ JohnnyMrNinja {talk} 08:14, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
It is discussed a bit at Taito Phillip Field, but I thought Fa'a Samoa was a better link for the entry than that page or Paramount chief (although it might make sense to add the words matai and taito to the blurb in Paramount chief that involves Samoa). Don't worry about offending me, and I'm sorry if I took anything you wrote the wrong way. Disambiguation pages are cheap and barely ever deleted - it's inobtrusive at the current location and it could conceivably become more useful in the future. I hope someone else will come along for you and review what I did soon. Dekimasuよ! 04:12, 21 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oppose Taito Corporation is less ambiguous so the article should stay here. Taito can redirect here and we'll have the dablink at the top of this article. Ewlyahoocom 04:16, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Origins of Taito edit

The page here says Michael Kabon started Taito in 1953. The "Michael Kabon" page says he moved from Manchuria to Japan in 1939, and, considering the Communists had taken over China in 1949, I doubt he moved back to start a trading company. Can anyone confirm where in Japan he started Taito? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kuanhui (talkcontribs) 06:48, 11 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Taito CorporationTaito — This is what the company is almost always called (both by themselves and by others). The only time they use "Taito Corporation" is when they need to do so for legal reasons (i.e. copyright notices). —TJ Spyke 02:16, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Support. Taito redirects, so there cannot be much complaint about current "primary usage" being claimed by this page. Unless suggestion is that Taito (disambiguation) be moved? Mcmullen writes (talk) 19:03, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Top 10 Google results have two items for other Taito (i.e. Tokyo ward). We needn't increase ambiguity. And Taito Corp. is their official name. --Aphaia (talk) 21:58, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. I think the company is the primary use to Western readers (esp. via pop culture), but not enough to warrant it getting the Taito page. Move Taito (disambiguation) instead? Fatsamsgrandslam (talk) 23:23, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per below; I think the redirect from Taito to this page should probably be changed. Dekimasuよ! 05:15, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Discussion edit

Any additional comments:
  • But the official name is Taito Corporation. Isn't that usually what we go by that. The Hershey Company is a prime example of that. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 10:30, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • As I replied at WP:RM, that is because there are multiple uses for "Hershey" (the company, the chocolate bar, the city in Pennsylvania, etc.) TJ Spyke 11:25, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • We go by what is the most common name, which is Taito. That is what they are always called, and it's even their logo. We don't have Microsoft at Microsoft Corporation (for example). The Hershey one is there because there are multiple possible uses for "Hershey" (the company, the chocolate bar made by that company, the town in Pennsylvania, etc.). TJ Spyke 12:00, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
      • Taito, though, is ambiguous... there is a ward in Tokyo of the same name. (The ward's title uses a macron, but precisely speaking, this should have a macron too.) Dekimasuよ! 08:37, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
        • Taito already redirects to this page though. And there is a hatnore at the top for those looking for that ward. TJ Spyke 11:25, 17 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Taito America's closure edit

The article as stands says that Taito America shut down in July 1996. I found this a bit odd, since it's well established that Taito sold all North American publishing rights to Acclaim in 1995 (what in the world were Taito America doing in those seven months?), and I've now found an article in the March 1996 issue of GamePro reporting "Taito has closed all its U.S. offices". Ordinarily I'd immediately edit the article to reflect this, but it's not immediately clear to me that Sanbou, the reference used for the July 1996 closure, is unreliable. Thoughts?--Martin IIIa (talk) 16:16, 18 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I suppose the best option is to see the objective outcome and use more than one source to prove said outcome. Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 16:32, 18 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Logo Date Incorrect? edit

I've grew up with, owned and used the original Bubble Bobble arcade game which came out in 1986, it definitely used the "modern" logo for the company. Yet this article claims "In August 1988, on the occasion of its 35th anniversary, the company changed its logo to the current one." with no citation. Perhaps they meant as a standard across the entire companies various product lines, or just their official office use, but the "modern" logo was definitely in use at least in 1986. Not sure how much effort it's worth to fact-check this, but if someone wants to do some digging that probably needs fixing. Edit: I should note this was in use on the arcade cabinet's detailing itself, not in the game ROM at the time. That was using the older logo.— Preceding unsigned comment added by TrackZero (talkcontribs) 18:15, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation? edit

Is it like "potato", or "tie-toe"? Or either one? IPA would be nice. Equinox 12:16, 19 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Taito on Italian Wikipedia - verbal abuse edit

I don't know if you can help since this is Italian Wikipedia. But I got my IP banned and insulted on Italian Wikipedia.

I don't know how to add an image, but I received a notification saying I was blocked for vandalism with "erunda durnizi" (ерунда дурницы) as the explanation, which translates to "bullsh*t from a moron".

I tried fixing Michael Kogan being described as Ukrainian and got verbally abused in russian. I wanted to fix the page and I feel the choice of language indicates a political (and not factual) motive behind my treatment.

I'd be happy if Wikipedia Italian was made aware of which ever mod or editor was behind this. I don't want other editors treated this way.

Thank you 78.199.138.115 (talk) 23:43, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
