I think the original price quoted in this article, and in the reference, needs some investigation. The first SR-50's my father tested for his department, circa 1973, were priced at about $600 in Canadian dollars, and I understand the initial price was close to $1,000 (1970?). The price fell rapidly, in 1974 I priced them at $250 locally and $180 mail order from Germany. I bought mine (SR-50A) from a large department store mail order for $159.95. Attending university in 1976 the price had dropped to $89.95, and the following year to $49.95 or less before being discontinued. This dramatic fall in the price was an indication of how fast the cost of producing chips fell at the time.

  • I believe my I talked my parents into buying me a SR-50 in late 1974 at a price of about $150 (U.S) A lot of money in that day, but it was well worth it - it got me thru High School and college Engineering. Thank you TI! --71.10.145.116 (talk) 00:39, 5 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
