The timeline described in this article omits some pertinent facts:

1935-1987 Overnite was a profitable, independent LTL company

1987-2003 Overnite was wholly owned by Union Pacific Railroad

2003-2005 Overnite issued an IPO and became independent again, trading on the NASDAQ under the symbol OVNT

2005 Overnite was purchased by United Parcel Service, becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary and rebranded to UPS Freight, though the home office remains at Richmond, VA —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.177.78.21 (talk) 17:20, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

This timeline with appropriate references, could be used in the article, satisfying one of the tags from 2007.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 00:45, 3 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've added coverage of pre-Union Pacific history (1935-1986). Very little info on the UP era so far and I got nothing for the 2003-2005 interregnum yet. - DatraxMada (talk) 19:16, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Branding edit

January 2014. Almost 8 years after the purchase and name change, UPS Freight has yet to brand all of it's equipment. Still with delapitated trailers from Motor Cargo of days past, there are still. hundreds of Overnight transportation (purchased by Motor Cargo) trailers still in use. With branding being so important to UPS, one would wonder why UPS would allow this to happen. "Who's moving my freight" You don't always see the tractor thats pulling the trailer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.2.153.10 (talk) 20:59, 27 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

This branding problem was added here over five yers ago, and probably no longer a problem.

CA Bay Area resident here, absolutely all of the UPS freight vehicles here have been updated to the most recent solid brown livery ( https://www.ups.com/assets/resources/images/369x276/m15-freight-services-freight-trucking.jpg ) can somebody elsewhere in the US confirm this is the case so that images can be updated to the most recent branding? Proposed removal of cleanup tags edit

Unless anyone has objections I’m going to remove the current cleanup tags (2 asking for help with Overnite info prior to 2006 and 1 saying additional references needed). We’ve got 21 references now, 10 are highly reliable, secondary sources mostly national or regional press. The rest are trustworthy trade publications with 1 or 2 primary sources thrown in for detail. I will add a new tag asking for additional info on the 2003-2005 period from an expert in trucks since I still don’t have anything solid there. —DatraxMada (talk) 12:59, 17 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Not having had any objection I did remove these tags and later removed the expert needed tag after 2 1/2 months without any action related to it. I have left the section expand tag in place, however, on the 2003-2005 section. DatraxMada (talk) 16:48, 3 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
