Crime

It would be good to find some facts about the crime rate in Surrey compared to all other municipalities, and cities in the GVRD. You can't argue with facts. I bet it might have the highest crime rate, although probably by a small margin...which is probably what has led to Surrey's bad reputation, and that's without even taking into account "Surrey girls". Where does all this 'crime' occur in Surrey, Surrey's crime rate is much lower than Vancouver and Burnaby especially violent crimes and break-ins the only significant crime that is there is car-theft and grow-op related mostly concentrated in Whalley which by the way has improved a lot in the last few decades. Stats say something totally different, its the media stupid. Its hard to find a prostitute or 'Surrey girls' on the stroll in Surrey while on Hastings and Kingsway in Vanouver, you don't even have to look. You feel safe while walking alone at night in pretty much every part of Surrey but not so in Vancouver especially in the above mentioned areas. April, 2007

StatCan 2008 reports overall crime rates in Surrey at #14 in Canada. Surrey's not even even close to cess pools like Vancouver, Burnaby and less than sleepy little coquitlam!! Desite an unfortunate incident Suggest Vancouverites stop trying to "sniff" at Surrey, wake up and smell the coffee brewing on their own eastside. What a friggen trash can!! Oh BTW, Surrey's population will exceed Vancouver in 10 years and all decisions get made by who?? the majority... Vancouver will always be a nice little resort town... (but stay out of the eastside tourists!! But you still have to admit. Among the Lower Mainland and even BC, Surrey is known as the pit-hole of our province. It may have a lower crime rate among it's neighboring cities but ask any street person and everyone will say Surrey is an aweful place. Exception being Cloverdale. Actually, it is the 13th largest municipality in Canada, and ranks 10th in the crime rate. Its kind of rare to find a city that is on the exact same spot on the crime list as it is on the population list. Its crime rate has decreased in the past 30 years, but in 2015, certain crimes increased in occurrence. I want to know why Semiahmoo is not mentioned as Town Center in the article?

Is South Surrey not known as Semiahmoo and is Semiahmoo not a town center?

It is not historically one of the town centres and it seems as though City Hall is trying to re-brand "South Surrey" as "Semiahmoo". The five original town centres take their names from regions of England:

• Whalley, Lancashire
• Guildford (which happens to be in Surrey, England)
• several cities and towns called Newton in England
• Fleetwood

Cloverdale is the exception. Semiahmoo has not typically represented all of South Surrey. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:55, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia has an article on that town centre at South Surrey, which states that South Surrey comprises the majority of the Semiahmoo peninsula. We use the common name. Only if Semiahmoo becomes the common name for South Surrey would we change things. Meters (talk) 23:42, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

And Semiahmoo (town centre is near the mall at 16 Ave & 152 St) may be the only town centre that has a different name from its community. Probably because Semiahmoo Peninsula is more different than other portions of South Surrey, which is unlike other town centres. Maybe.

So we might have to change the Neighbourhoods of Surrey chart to clarify the Communities, Town Centres, Minor(?) Neighbourhoods

Walter, the edit I made removed a person who only played soccer in BC for a short time. His article doesn't say where he was born and he doesn't currently live in Surrey. I can see no valid reason to have him on the list. If we are going to include everyone who lived in Surrey at one point in their lives then a fork as suggested above would be immediately required. As for my other comment about the list of Notable People becoming bloated -- when I randomly clicked on names on there, many entries had an at best tenuous relationship to the city.--Daffydavid (talk) 06:10, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Are we talking about the same edit? You removed Alen Marcina, who was was born in Surrey. What information do you have that he "only played soccer in BC for a short time"? According to that article, he lived in BC for the first 22 years of his life and then returned to play with the Whitecaps in 2007 when they were in USL. Looking above and below that, I see Adam Loewen who was here for less time that Marcina. I also see Debi Makhsoospuri and Harbhajan Mann whose bios don't even mention Surrey. I'm fine with removing entries who do not mention the city in their bios, but subjects who were born here or clearly lived in the city when they were at the pack of their fame should be left on the list. I didn't see his birthplace in the sidebar I only read the article. If we are leaving anyone born here then as I suggested above it's going to be a long list.
