Talk:Sterling, Colorado

Hi, everybody. I think this article is getting really good. I remember when I first edited this article, in February/2007 it was really poor -- lacked infobox, pictures and some sections (i.e. "Transportation", "History"). Now, let's keep it clean and neat, so it will really look good. I have chosen a couple topics to talk about here and I hope you read it, discuss it (if you don't agree) and add new topics to get this article going. Thanks Felipecbg 21:25, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Pictures

Pictures related to a specific topic/section discussed on the article can be added to its respective topic/section. However, I think we should always define pictures' sizes as 200px, so that the article will look better -- more organized and standadized. For all other pictures, I have added a gallery, where all they should be placed.Felipecbg 21:25, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Please don't make major changes in this page by putting the pictures into that tiny little gallery. They were placed at the appropriate place in the text for a very good reason. Please do not change the size of the pictures, which was also optimized. You are free to add stuff like the transportation icons, but don't substantially change the significant input of others.--Acutemi 00:15, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I got it. I think there's no problem in keeping the pictures in the text. However, the following points should be considered:

1. I really think that pictures should be thumbnailed at 200px. If the reader wants to see a larger image, there is no big deal in clicking on the picture to get a larger one. Large pictures in the middle of the article make it look "polluted";
2. If you'd rather not to have a gallery, it's also fine. But in this case, I think the pictures on the section "Historic Pictures" should be properly integrated into the text;
3. The section "Infrastructure" is too small for three pictures. And two of them are from the same place: the courthouse. It urges to be improved. That's why I had created the gallery. And although the pictures look "tiny" in the gallery, you can always click them to get a larger one.
4. Another alternative is to create an article about the courthouse, if there's enough to say about it and put both pics on that article. Or even better -- create an article about the history of Sterling, keeping only a brief description on the article "Sterling" with a tag "Main article: History of Sterling" before that brief description, under the section "history". Then, all the historic pics would be transferred to that new article.

Transportation

I have improved the section "Transportation" (that I created myself in the begining of 2007). It now features a sub-topic called "Major Highways". I took this model from the article Abilene, Texas and I think that it's a good model because as it shows the highways' shields and it makes the article more visually appealing. Native American Indians

I'm not from Sterling, only an armchair student of Plains Indians. I removed the Blackfoot & Kiowa tribes from the History section. Blackfoot were much further north and and Kiowa somewhat further SE. Of course, many tribes could have ranged/hunted through there, but without occupying it. I'm also suspicious that the Crow ever lived there. Unless anyone objects, I'd like to qualify that para to reflect that the nomadic Arapaho and Cheyenne were the 'principal tribes occupying the area at the time of 18th century European contact' or some such, and note that the Sioux, Pawnee and probably others hunted there occasionally...But the point is, I can't find references that all these tribes once lived in the Sterling area, even over time.
