Split into list article

I've proposed splitting this article out into List of state-owned enterprises, as a significant bulk of the article simply lists SOEs by country. I would suggest that it is better to have the separate list article for companies, and then maintain this article as a prose discussion of SOEs, mentioning companies when relevant to the prose. — Sasuke Sarutobi (talk) 11:27, 10 October 2016 (UTC)

As List of government-owned companies is already in use and part-populated, I've changed this to the proposed target of the split. — Sasuke Sarutobi (talk) 12:17, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
I agree. fgnievinski (talk) 03:22, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
I also support this proposal, but wonder would this also involve deleting or moving the prose parts from the list sections, or would these be retained for a shorter 'By country/region' section or something similar? I'd tentatively support the latter FWIW. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seggens (talkcontribs) 00:57, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
I also support this proposal. As is, this article does quite little to reflect the extensive state of the literature on state-owned enterprises. StudentofCooperation (talk) 19:19, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Enormous table, opinions wanted

Please see this Help desk discussion for the reason why I boldly removed the very large table which has recently been returned by Sorocabrasil. The issue is whether the table is useful, and if it is, should it be reformatted to render it more readable, particularly for readers using small screens and also considering the needs of users who have visual impairments, per MOS:ACCESS. Government-owned corporationState-owned enterprise – As discussed and basically agreed upon above, "state-owned" is the slightly broader, but less fuzzy concept. Various different definitions of "government" exist, ranging from a synonym of "state" to the mere executive branch or what in U.S. terminology is called administration. Also, as discussed there, not all state-owned enterprises are organized as corporations. State-owned enterprise (SOE) is common terminology. I prefer this to be formally discussed befor making the move though. --PanchoS (talk) 07:46, 22 February 2015 (UTC) PanchoS (talk) 07:46, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

  • I support as to "enterprise" but I am ambivalent about the "State" part, since in the U.S. this might be taken as meaning a U.S. State as opposed to the federal government or a county or municipal government. bd2412 T 16:01, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Support per nom and WP:COMMONNAME. "Government" is not a synonym of the state in much of the world and this is not Ameropedia. As far as User talk:BD2412's concerns go, while "state" is used as a federal entity in the U.S., there are few if any enterprises owned by these states and they are not termed such. Even the American media uses the term SOE to refer to this article's topic (e.g., here). See also relative usage in this Google ngram as an indicator of the common name where SOE outnumbers GOC by about 10:1. —  AjaxSmack  02:40, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Support – Per AjaxSmack. RGloucester 19:07, 28 February 2015 (UTC)
  • Comment - currently this article is more or less a list so it doesn't do much operationalisation. I'm not certain that all government owned businesses are state owned enterprises, for example RBS is currently owned by the British Government but certainly isn't commonly referred to as a SOE. At the same time, I dislike the term corporation in the current title is a complicated term. Perhaps this article needs to be split with one article entitled State-owned enterprise and with another about other government owned enterprises.
Possibly Government monopoly needs to be merged into this article as well. Ebonelm (talk) 12:51, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
