Talk:Spanish military orders

Merge into Orders, decorations, and medals of Spain? edit

I don't see any other country keep a separate article like this. Why not collect everything in a complete overview rather than maintain this redundancy? PPEMES (talk) 17:59, 27 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@PPEMES and Klbrain: The merge was a clumsy move. Orders, decorations, and medals of Spain is supposed to be a compilation of awards/decorations (and for better or worse in a "list of" article fashion). The new content remains largely offtopic (adding to the already confusingly structured original content) as their role in the middle ages was not one of "award" and in any case heavy unbalance is introduced. Prima facie, I'd say the history of the military orders in the Iberian peninsula during the middle ages deserve a standalone article (though one with a embedded Spanish nationalist frame is certainly not the best approach). Another important article yet to be created might be that of the Council of the Military Orders [es], where historical content about how the Catholic Monarchs and the Habsburgs became grand masters of the orders active in the kingdoms of Castile, Aragon, and how such council became part of the polysinodial regime of councils of the Hispanic Monarchy is appropriate.--Asqueladd (talk) 07:04, 18 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
