editWas this type probably developed out of the Dutch smak ships? They were popular cargo vessels in Belgium and the Netherlands from the 16th century on and were later introduced in Germany. The smaks were however two-masted from the beginning with a yardarms main rigg. At least the names are strikingly similar though. De728631 (talk) 23:05, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Big Problem
editThe article doesn't tell us what the criteria are or a smack, or what the difference is between them and other similar boats, or what the main boat classifications are. It would also be helpful if the article explained the difference between the rigs: cutter, schooner, etc., as oppossed to the boats.
