Your article looks like it has a lot of great information and precise details. Reading through it, I can tell you have a deep interest in your topic. I also like the examples you use such as Eminem and Rhianna's music video. For some suggestions, I think that if you include some statics into your article such as the percentage of violence against women in music videos versus actual violence against women live and realistically, I think it would be interesting. Also, maybe if you did some extra research about why viewers and listeners are so into the violence against women and the sexuality in music videos, why MTV is so popular, and why many youths still watch and listen to rap music videos even though they agree that it has too much sexual references, it could add more interesting aspects to your article. Furthermore, this will explain a bit more about our society that we live in today and what our values and norms are and what is important to us. For example, is sexual content in media like on television, really that important to society? Why before, it was so inappropriate to show that much sexual content in the 1920's versus today? And why is it okay for MTV to keep showing these music videos even though it leads to more violence in the real world? Cleaning up the formatting

Having a "sexuality in music videos" topic header for a page called "sexuality in music videos" seems redundant. Think about what else that headline could be, so that it can read a bit better. - Also I noted that the citations weren't actually included, they only had [1] or [2] and not proper citations - please ask for help if you are having problems with citations. Suggestions

You have a lot of good insight here. However, sometimes your article can seem sort of biased...for instance: "No adolescent girl should dance around her living room singing 'I'm a slave 4 you.'" Maybe reread it and make sure that what you wrote isn't your opinion? Also, music videos also have an effect on males as well, so maybe add a section about that and not just one regarding females? Good article. There is a lot of great information, and you have good sources. Nice work! The only thing I can add is that maybe you should expand a bit more. You could possibly write about the sexuality of men vs that of women. Also you could maybe talk about sexuality of younger people in music videos. For instance Britney Spears in baby one more time, she was being presented as very mature and sexy, but she was only 16 at the time. The article is great, my only suggestion is to incorporate other genres of music. Neutrality

The neutrality of the last three sections is virtually nonexistent. The language is god-awfully unencyclopedic, sounds completely like an essay. I also feel it appears to be some sort of essay or original research. It doesn't really have a place in the article or seem factual. Moreover, the text also appears in the article "Sexuality in Music Videos" (note caps), the talk page of which says it's part of a college course, Wikipedia:United States Education Program/Courses/Writing as Communication (Zachary McDowell) – ergo, someone's essay. Sexualized imagery in korean pop music videos?

What about music videos of k-pop? It seems like most of the time they're all about stereotypically "feminine" girls, sometimes under the age of 18, dancing around, gyrating and shaking booties while wearing almost fetishistic-looking high heels and fake lashes to look "sexy". (Not like j-pop, where girls usually wants to be considered "cute".) The theme of "being a strong-minded, domineering, cool and desirable woman" is often present as well in the lyrics. Extension of Human Sexuality in Music Videos

I chose to add these two paragraphs because it gives readers more information about the generalities of human sexuality. Human sexuality is not only about gender and race, but it is also about people's behavior. These two additional paragraphs gives readers the stereotypical characters in music videos. First, it gives the general idea of how men and women are portrayed differently. Women are shown as the one who is dependent on the male. Essentially, the male is usually the hero. As generations pass, women are now used mostly for their physical appearance, especially for the male audience. Because of this, many people's behaviors have changed. I thought it would be a good idea of how most people react to certain music videos and how his or her's attitude has changed. This extension allows readers to understand the topic of human sexuality more and allow music video watchers to be aware of these aspects.

Sexuality in Music Videos

I chose to add these paragraphs because I felt as though all aspects about the topic of race in relation to sexuality in music videos was not covered completely. Races had been mentioned in the article, however, I expanded on how the races such as Indians and African Americans had been portrayed in past music videos. These four paragraphs I added describe how stereotyping within society has led to music videos becoming very biased in their representation of African Americans as living a rough and unruly lifestyle, while all Caucasians are shown as middle and upper class with a comfortable lifestyle. The emergence of many Asian and other cultures music in the global market has drastically altered the perspective on how they are depicted within music videos, where they previously had little to no influence. The modern era of technology has tremendously helped different races change how they are portrayed in music videos, instead of solely relying on them to fulfill needs to capture an audience's attention through the use of their sexuality.

Additions to article

I chose to add a few sections to the “sexuality in music videos” article to expand on it and provide further insight to benefit any potential readers. I elaborated on the role of media and how its changes throughout the last few decades especially have possibly had an impact on the changing nature of sexuality in music videos. I provided an addendum in the “2000s” and “2010s” sections with my changes, which consisted of a couple of paragraphs that explained how the rise of social media and video sharing sites in these introductory decades of the 21st century have affected the subject matter, as well as a handful of citations to accompany the additions.

In these sections, I covered briefly the expansion of sites such as YouTube that have facilitated the expedited diffusion of music videos, in turn facilitating the distribution of sexual content in these same music videos.

2010's edits

The section I added edits to was the 2010's. The section mentions non-heterosexuality in music videos briefly. I chose to expand on the idea of homosexuality in music videos and how it was presented to amplify this portion. I thought this section could use more examples to add more information and diversity about the topic presented. I used the article "Reading Gay Music Videos: An Inquiry Into the Representation of Sexual Diversity in Contemporary Popular Music Videos" that was used previously in this portion of the section. I think the information I added gives more insight to the readers about homosexuality and heterosexuality used in music videos because it provides more depth to the topic. I provided examples of music videos that demonstrate homosexuality and heterosexuality. -1 Question Relevant to Article- (2021, September, 19) Question: Why is the sexualization of women not included as well?

Evaluation To begin, the title of the article is not capitalized- I'm not sure if this is a big deal, but visually it looks messy. None of the headings are capitalized beyond the first letter either.

To begin, the first sentence on the page just introduces since when sexuality in music videos has "been around." I feel that in the first sentence I would very briefly describe sexuality and then introduce since when it has been prevalent in music videos and how it's changed.

The information after that looks good, it introduces and looks further into the types of sexualization. But I feel that if I was writing this, I would have included the four types of sexualization and their role in music videos in my topic sentence to introduce the article. This way the person looking at the first leading sentence would have an idea of what's about to be covered in the next paragraph.

The sources and information is interesting, and the arrangement of the article is well thought out.

The article seems neutral to me. I feel this article could be updated with even more information about the role social media plays now that there are no many new features on platforms to share music videos and reach larger crowds Ava hedges (talk) 01:42, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
