Talk:RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars season 7

Since this is a returning season of winners edit

Shouldn't the contestant table include just the seasons they won? ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 17:42, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Issue with sortable edit

Sortable doesn't source a row entry with two values e.g. Monet and trinity so I've removed sortable option on season. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 17:46, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion for contestant progress table with new format edit

Here's the kind of progress table I suggest according to the rumoured format, which is quite different from the usual format since there is no risk of being eliminated (which means the SAFE placement isn't valid anymore). Names and wins are completely arbitrary, simply to give an idea of what it could look like.

Bring back "HIGH" placements for this season- but this season only edit

I know that this is still a highly contentious topic that caused a lot of drama last year, but I think that the hurdles that prevented "HIGH" placements from being implemented in the normal RPDR & RPDR All Stars seasons (which would be vague statements) are different this time. Since this is a season with no eliminations, I'm only suggesting implementing HIGH placements, not LOW placements.

The evidence:

In both episodes of the premiere of All Stars, All Winners, RuPaul says unequivocal statements that prove there are queens who placed high that week.

Episode 1: RuPaul says in the deliberation ("Alright, now just between us squirrel friends..") phase: "We have to determine the top All Stars of the week."

Episode 2: RuPaul says in the deliberation phase: "Who are the queens you are most passionate about this week?"

Both of these statements, especially the second one, suggest that the queens they are going to name after did very well that week, and as the All Winners season removes the variable of the queens in the deliberation phase with negative critiques, therefore, I am confident that they are only naming contestants who outperformed the others that week. This therefore means that it's not original research, and that everyone who was namedropped did well that week regardless of whether or not they end up being in the top two.

In the first episode, the judges name Monet, Shea, Trinity, and Yvie as some of the potential top contestants of the week. In the second episode, the judges name Jinkx, Raja, Trinity, and Monet as some of the top.

The reasoning:

Because of the evidence, I am confident that it is perfectly appropriate to add "HIGH" placements to Trinity, Yvie, Raja, and Monet. Jinkx and Shea would be untouched, as they won their respective lipsyncs. The show itself makes it obvious and I am only suggesting this for this specific season as it's different from the others, which have other reasons for not having "HIGH" and "LOW" placements. Not to mention, track record is going to matter a lot here as this is the all winners season. This is easy, non-OR, valuable information that would benefit the article reader.

Now, I may be being a bit too hasty as there are only two episodes premiered so far. Who knows, the pattern could be shaken up by episode three, but I am confident this is going to become a pattern as the season progresses. However, I would like to get the discussion started on this, so that we can catch up to speed as the season will air over the next few months.

One last thing: I'd like to kindly ask all of the commenters to avoid leaking rumoured, unsourced spoilers of the season of all the episodes that haven't premiered yet on this page. I myself am watching the season as it airs and I would prefer to both enjoy the show without spoilers and also enjoy contributing to this article. Not only leaking the rest of it for all of us would have no point, it would also be disparaging, which in my opinion falls under a personal attack. Thank you!

(P.S, I removed the suggested elimination table section by AstridofHim not because I could also have been extremely spoiled if I looked at it any longer than a second, but because the information they used is unsourced and only rumoured. The format of the table itself actually looks decent, at least, as far as my "look away!" glance could tell. rogueshanghaichat (they/them) 15:59, 21 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Since it's been an entire month and no one's contested my proposed change change, I'm going to be implementing it, at least only in this AS7 table due to the format being radically different from other All Stars seasons in the past. If HIGH placements are going to be used, the table needs to be changed since Jinkx was HIGH during episode 1. Right now, it implies bias to no indicate her HIGH placement that episode since she was one of the people that were singled out during deliberation. 10TAL (talk) 16:51, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

i don’t have an opinion one way or another as to whether HIGHs should be included, but @10TAL Jinkx was not one of the 4 queens highlighted in deliberation in episode 1… Griffindaly (talk) 22:13, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've undone them. The consensus was no high or low placements. You need a specific consensus to say adding them is of value and for them to be reliably sourced by a third party (see WP:PRIMARY). Existing consensus is they're not to be used. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 22:21, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Lil-unique1: That consensus was decided before All Stars 7 new format was even revealed, and that consensus doesn't apply here because the format of the regular seasons is completely different from the format of this All Winners season. (With that logic, the consensus also applies to Dragula, but Dragula has HIGH placements.) And WP:PRIMARY doesn't apply here because the show itself goes out of its way to highlight these queens as HIGH in this week. For the past eight episodes, judges have CONSISTENTLY highlighted FOUR queens (and only four) as top performers that week. It is important context that certain queens, while not being in the TOP2, have been very high performing, such as Raja and Shea. There is no need to dumb down the progress table to follow a consensus that doesn't apply to this new format. Thank you. rogueshanghaichat (they/them) 16:32, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
Doesn't matter - the existing consensus applies to all iterations of drag race. You need to specifically obtain a consensus to change the way things are done. Its clear from the discussion above, you do not have a consensus for the edits you wish to make. >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 17:12, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
What you have said is WP:SYNTHESIS >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 17:13, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
I know it's been 18 months since this discussion, but your statement of "You need to specifically obtain a consensus to change the way things are done. Its clear from the discussion above, you do not have a consensus for the edits you wish to make" is just blatantly false. There was a consensus reached. No one contested the changes in the 6 week timeframe between their suggestion and their implementation, and no one has contested them since. There has not been any discussion here against implementing the clearly stated positive comments into the table. 2001:8A0:67D2:BB00:993F:624B:3C52:EF95 (talk) 16:20, 4 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

“Receive positive critiques” phrasing in summaries edit

A few times now, I’ve changed the phrasing in the episode summaries of this chunk each week: “Queens A, B, C, and D receive positive critiques from the judges” to read “Queens A, B, C, and D receive positive comments during the judges’ deliberations” and it’s been changed back.

I know it’s a small distinction, but rather than the normal format of three queens getting positive critique and three getting negative, in this season all the queens have been shown getting positive critiques and THEN, later, during the deliberations, the judges call out four with particular high praise.

Is there a particular reason to keep the old phrasing, parallel to past seasons, even though it’s not really accurate to how this season is formatted?

If no opposition by next week’s episode I’ll probably edit them all to “receive positive comments during the judges’ deliberations” or maybe “are highlighted as exceptional performers during the judges’ deliberations.” Griffindaly (talk) 20:54, 27 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
