Controversy - Bitter Battle between Robin Wales and traders at Queen's Market. edit

Sir Robin Wales has been involved in a bitter battle with the Friends of Queens Market, which represents the market traders at Queen's Market lively and busling market. The traders and residents are objecting to plans to demolish the market and replace with 31 storey appartment block with shops.

(initially ASDA wanted to buy the site, but local people did not want this and significant anti-publicity. ASDA pulled out. And not Robin Wales/St Modwents want to demolish the market and build 31 storey.

Can someone find references etc.... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.145.25.35 (talk) 22:53, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Too Much Power edit

The Mayor is one of 13 elected Mayors.

Many Councillors (even many of his own Labour) accuse the Mayor of running the Borough like a dictator. Some Councillors lost seats of his own Party, as they had to toe Party line.

He has the right to veto any proposals....

This too POV.... but useful background for people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.145.25.35 (talk) 23:02, 18 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Corruption - Robin Wales supporting airport expansion edit

I put this section here in the discussion section rather then the main page, otherwise it will be a battle. So if someone is doing research on Robin Wales, they have a few pointers.

The London City Airport is localted in the London Borough of Newham. Unlike other airports it is located in a residential area. It was opened in 1987 mainly to serve the business community and could only land small 30 seater planes. However, despite residents objections, the airport has kept on expanding. Today it uses larger regional sized jet planes, which are a lot more noisy than the small propeller planes.

Sir Robin Wales has been supporting London City Airport expansion aims, when it put a planning application to increase flights from 76,000 to 120,000 (smae size as Luton Airport). Even though it would the aircraft noise blights the local area, Mayor Robin Wales took no notice. School children can expect flights 1 every 3 minutes. And there are schools and homes just within walking distance from the airport.

One of the conditions of it to operate as an airport, was that the airport MUST carry out noise monitoring. This is important as it gives an idea about noise disturbance in the local area, but also about the airport's obligation to carry out noise insulation to homes which exceed certain limits. Of course the airport has failed to carry out noise monitoring for the past 8 years. Newham Council has not prosectured the airport for breaking the law. Instead Newham Council has backed more expansion. Newham Council did not bother to consult residents in neighbouring boroughs who happen to be under the flights path. Pity he forgot about the residents his Borough in Newham and residents of Thamesmead, Bow and Newham.....

Residents are angry. And they feel that Mayor has been has busing working for London City Airport's shareholders.

For instance, Robin Wales had the cheek to say it is residents fault for living near airports!. Yet teh airport was only built in 1987, so why blame residents? Many of whom whose familes have lived in the area for generations!

Robin Wales is one of the few elected Mayors, so he runs the Council more like a dictatorship compared to other Councils where they don't have elected Mayors. When the London City Airport planning application was put to the Planning Committee EVERY SINGLE LABOUR COUNCILLOR voted as per Robin Wales's orders. Many believe that this is because the coucillors would have been ejected from lucrative committees....

He even told one resident 'implicitly' that his home could be burgled, if he went up against the airport. Is this how democracy is supposed to work?.

There is no democracy in Newham under Robin Wales

Also, the local newspaper Newham Recorder failed to put the residents case. This is because it relies on advertising revenues from the Newham Council. And the airport even took adverts in the local paper.

The airport is very strong and has strong lobby groups. Even wiki articles are quickly editted out!

See [londoncityairportfighttheflights.blogspot.com] for full saga... (start on older posts first)

Even some his cronie councillors wrote in to support the London City Airport (see Alec Kellaway).

Building 1000 - Robin Wales blows £100m on new buiding edit

Robin Wales bought the contraversial Buiding 1000 which is opposite the London City Airport runway.

This building which remained empty for 5 years failed to attract a single tenant. Who wants an office opposite a noisy airport with smell of aviation fuel?.

The Councils has been supporting expansion at the airport, but Robin Wales does not see that the airport has cost jobs.

In an area that is considered deproved, it seems crazy that Robin Wales bnliew £100m on new Council offices, where are is both the East Ham Town Hall and also the old Town Hall in Stratford. Plus lots of Council offices. Though Robin Wales attitude is not dissimilar to Saddam Hussains, who built himself luxury palaces. Rather then serving the needs of the community, he decides to blow money on himself!!

Also, researchers should note that he claims to have bought this building in order to save energy! Nope they leave the light on all night and this is a glass buiding. I doubt if it good at keeping the energy in!

Also, that he spent millions linking up offices together and then decides... maybe it is a good idea to have a centralised location!. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.149.169.82 (talk) 00:35, 20 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Neutrality issues edit

Large chunks of the article read as though written by a very keen supporter. In the opening paragraphs a lot of space is given to his pledges and priorities but none to the effectiveness or implementation/achievement of these. There are similar POV issues in the body of the article. There are also a number of unreferenced positive claims. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.132.120.102 (talk) 18:47, 29 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
