POV edit

I certainly agree what was there at the end of the second paragraph was in need of change. What was there implied that Maduuro and his Congress were being successful against the gangs, which is evidently not true, but is now been completely reworded in an more neutral way, SqueakBox 20:47, 6 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

How can it be determined if they are being successful fighting against the gangs? One of the factors is the number of people that have been imprisoned (which has already been included). What other factors can be taken in consideration here? We can't just say "widely" not only because it is POV but because we are not mentioning the factors why it is not being successful. --Vizcarra 20:59, 6 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

We can't say he has been successful because it is not true, as sourced by the newspapers. For instance the other day there was an article about how there are many areas of San Pedro Sula where taxis won't go because of the gangs, and there are many anecdotal tails in the press that indicate that the gangs are still very active. Statistics also prove that there has not been a reduction in violent crime, drugs, etc. Plus everyone in Honduras knows that this is the case, that there are areas in every town where it is dangerous, that the Police are ineffective, that there is a lot of coke money, etc. Claiming he has been successful is pure PNH propaganda trying to win the forthcoming election, and as POV slant has no place in the article so we shouldn't try to judge at all the success or otherwise of Maduro's efforts, though when he does go in January it would be good to try and get some sourced judgements about his 4 years at the top, SqueakBox 23:15, 6 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

This BBC country profile of Honduras bears out what I am saying, SqueakBox 00:09, 7 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yes. i think he has been a good president he had helped in some way. teh Country

The articles references as Maduro's government to be "widely" accepted as catapulting tourism as the number one source of income second only to remittances. Also gives the government and its cardinal full credit for the recent debt pardoning the Honduras was subject to. I believe this paragraph lack neutrality and identifiable sources.

1) "Widely accepted" is definitely a disputed term. By whom? Are there any polls to prove this? Can this be disputed by others? 2) What exactly the government did to catapult tourism is also debatable since no source is given to draw a correlation of government actions and the tourism trends. 3) Is tourism even the number one source of income? 4) The debt elimination, was not the product of one president and its cardinal. The HIPC status has been a country initiative ever since Hurrican Mitch. The fact is the many countries, mostly African nations, got the the same status the same day as Honduras, proves that this was more a action driven by world opinion and several government's efforts than the single effort of two people.

I believe the paragaraph needs to be modified in great length or deleted. Wikihonduras 14:26, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Following Wikipedia standards related to articles about living persons, the following paragraph was moved to this page (Unsourced material and controversial issues):

"His administration is widely credited with catapulting Tourism to the number one source of income in Honduras, second only to remmitances from immigrants to the United States and Europe; ultimately achieving the record milestone of over 1 million visitors in one year alone. The economic adjustment measures taken by his administration - along with relentless and vociferous international appeals by Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez of Tegucigalpa - are responsible for achieving the pardoning of the bulk of foreign debt owed by Honduras at the beginning of his term." Additional ethnic and religious facts suggested to be added

When the page is next upgraded, I respectfully suggest taking the following data into account: ttps://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/maduro-ricardo#:~:text=Maduro%20is%20a%20member%20of,then%20to%20Curaçao%20and%20Panama The current Wikipedia article does not take these facts into account and the article is thus misleading if it remains as it is.

Thank you.
