Talk:Revolt of Zayd ibn Ali

Battle of Kufa edit

Can this article be renamed to Battle of Kufa since this article primarily contains the info about the Battle which took place on 1st Safar. Zayd's rebellion is rarely covered in the article, only in some of the starting lines. General QJB 20:13, 20 December 2021

The rebellion took place in Kufa. Battle of Kufa is vague. Many battles were fought in Kufa in the early Islamic period. This is just one of them.--AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 22:10, 19 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
AhmadLX, Thanks for responding. My account has been blocked for username reasons so I am responding from this. How's the Battle of Kufa vague. It is well-known that Zayd was martyred in this battle on 1st Safar. Same things happened on Battle of Karbala and Battle of Kufa. Imam Husayn was going towards Karbala where the Umayyad army came and killed him and his partisans. This event was the Battle of Karbala and we have an article for it. In the same way, Imam Zayd was rebelling against Umayyads, and there army arrived in Kufa and slayed Zayd and his partisans. Why can't we have an article for it. The revolt is barely covered in the article. Yes, there were many battles of Kufa so this article can be renamed 'Battle of Kufa (720)'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.63.138.88 (talk) 15:02, 20 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Revolt of Zayd ibn AliBattle of Kufa (740). This article contains very less info about Zayd's revolt. Almost the entire article talks about the Battle, in which Zayd and his partisans were martryed. Since there were many battles in Kufa, this article can be named Battle of Kufa (740) be a better title? DoubleSlim (talk) 11:25, 2 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. It is good that this time you started the discussion instead of unanimously moving the article. Other editors too can now voice their opinion. I have to oppose the move nevertheless. The article talks about the battle only because Zayd's revolt consisted of just one battle. The outline is this: "He went to Hisham in Syria for a property dispute, who sent him to Kufa where the other contender in the dispute had been imprisoned, the Kufan governor decided in Zayd's favor, then he was persuaded by his sympathizers to revolt, he launched a recruitment campaign, came in open with his partisans in Kufa and was killed in that battle." That's it. There were no other engagements in the revolt. When you see the sources on the subject, they talk about "Revolt of Zayd" and not the "740 Battle of Kufa". As such, the current title is correct. AhmadLX-(Wikiposta) 15:12, 2 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
