Is this some kind of self-mockery? edit

The following is a quote from the first paragraph of the lead of the very article Wikipedia:

and constitutes the Internet's largest and most popular general reference work.

By clicking this reference work internal link, you end up at this article. After this first introductory sentence:

A reference work is a book or periodical (or its electronic equivalent) to which one can refer for confirmed facts

Reality in 2016 tells us that what a reference work supplies is information, end of sentence. We know that each user of the work attributes some degree of trust to the information regarding its level of accuracy, a degree that the user judges to be enough for their current purpose, at the price level they have paid (which may be zero or nonzero), but the degree of trust is neither absolute 100% nor zero. I fixed the lede to resolve the identified problems. Quercus solaris (talk) 02:32, 16 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

The German article about Reference work edit

I looked at the German article through Google Translate to English, and I noticed no references. Should we use it? TheSmartPersonUS1 (TSPUS1) 00:48, 1 February 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheSmartPersonUS1 (talkcontribs)
