please will someone tell me what can be done to an adoptive 15 year old boy that continues to cuss his mother. he has been locked up in juvi hall now 3 times. all of this stemmed from him being busted out on the internet and caught with a 20 year old at school. he writes emails stating he wants to KILL people. sucking and fucking guts..goes over to the jr high and ask a particular girl does she masterbate and would she do it in front of him..

in his emails he refers to her...he stood infront of myself (his 48 year old sister) and mother last night and told my daughter he wanted to kill both of us.

we called the police and we took him to the hospital. the physc told us he was just pissed off and he was sexually frustrated...

we have letters upon letters that he has written talking about killing and hurting people..

can someone give me advice...

I'm deeply sorry that you find yourself in this situation, but I have to tell you that very few people here would be qualified to advise on this topic, and none of them can give you advice online, just as we couldn't give you a medical diagnosis or legal advice.

Someone at Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Miscellaneous might be able to direct you to general online resources on this topic, but they can't tell you what to do either. I hope you understand this constraint, and wish you the very best.

Please put it back. As an emotional abused person, pyschological abuse does not accuratly reflect the impact on emotions. kids in trouble help page

Hi I added a link to the Kids in Trouble Help Page and it was removed, this was fully in the guidelnes, this is not a commercial site it is simply a site to reach kids and teens in need and it is appropriate for this topic - especially as the emotional abuse page goes to here now. Kids and Teens need a way to get help from abuse (all types including psychological) depression, suicide etc. If this is not an appropriate page what is. I'm still fairly new to editing on wiki but I do understand that this is to be a user edited and free encyclopedia. therefore I would appreciate if you return what I posted. I'm sorry that this comment is late in coming. The issue I have with kithp is that it is a general site on childhood issues and not specifically on psychological abuse. WP:EL states "A general site that has information about a variety of subjects should usually not be linked to from an article on a more specific subject" Neitherday 11:47, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

I believe this is one of those exceptions as KITHP deals with all kinds of abuse, from emotional/psychological abuse to other types of abuse such as physical, sexual, and neglect. Often when there is abuse it is mixed, (ie. emotional and sexual) And it hard to look at a separate distinct entity. These also are intertwined very much with depression running away, and sadly suicide, KITHP is therefore a very relavent resource for this topic and deals directly with the subject at hand even if it deals with other related topics.Endabusenow 18:05, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

why was this page merged with emotional abuse

I do not see mention of the merge on this talk page. Nobody has answerd the question I posted a while back, yet clearly someone has been editing and merging this page. I belive there should be two separate pages - are there any psychologists or other proffesionals with an opinion? I find it saddening that there is so little content here, especially since this page represents a merging with emotional abuse. Certainly there is such a thing as purposeful taunting and torture in the absence of physical abuse....but if it cannot be defined any better than it is here, one might be tempted to conclude that it doesn't really exist, in any large measure...but might be better defined as "very bad feelings, to the point of emotionally immobility, that is easier to accept if I can blame someone else for it." Perhaps there is far too great a willingness to categorize short term or long term emotional distress as "abuse." These definitions have become exceedingly slippery. possible elderabuse

I have witnessed here recently a mother and daughter living in the same reidence. the Daughter has a drinking problem and in turn will yell at the mother while under the influance degrading the mother and attempting to control the mothers home life and interaction with other family members. I fear this situation may become worse if not resolved. I can not find any confirmed identifiable signs of abuse. the daughter is a nurses aide and knows the boundries in which one should have when living with an elder and or diabiled person. I fear for the well being of this person but in the state in which I live proof is needed to file and form of report. Article quality

I'm not a member of WikiProject Psychology, but I just read this article and it made me cry. Of course I cannot be certain, but my immediate thought was, "Someone copied their Introduction to Psychology paper to Wikipedia." Unless the school the author goes (or went) to is the shining epitome of grade inflation, I would venture to guess that same paper scored very poorly. I'm very tempted to mark this as {{cleanup-rewrite}} -- but I'll let a WikiProject Psychology member decide how to handle that instead. Personally I think the content is VERY important as what is described here is becoming prevalent in our society at an alarming rate, though agree this quality is below par. I think maybe it should be renamed as "gang stalking" which seems to be the most accepted name for it, and wiki has no page on that. (it is more accurately described as community mobbing, but also known as cause stalking and organized stalking) In any case don't delete the page. Batvette (talk) 02:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Serious NPOV issues

While intending to edit for grammar, I could not help but notice that much of the article presented psychological abuse as being exclusively perpetrated by men against their female partners. While statistically, studies do show that this is often the case, this ignores or marginalizes the many different forms of abuse possible: younger on elder, elder on younger, and female on male abuse all occur, to name but a few. It cannot be appropriate for a general article intended to cover all forms of psychological abuse to instead focus on one specific type, no matter how prevalent. Furthermore, I discovered that someone had deliberately edited out a reference to the UK Home Office which provided a statistic about female on male psychological abuse. This was done without discussing it here first. I have restored the reference as best I could.

Finally, it is alarming to me that such a high-importance article should rely on only one book for the majority of its references. It is my hope that fellow editors with experience in psychology will work to provide a more generalized and more helpful article that incorporates the opinions of more than one expert. -moritheil^Talk 02:23, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

I'll jump on board to that - the books look pretty dubious, no scholarly press which would indicate serious research publications. When I first found this page a few months back it consisted of only a few brief lines, which I found astonishing considering that Wikipedia now covers almost everything else. I have made a start on expanding it, working on the aspects I know most about. I live a long way from any large library where I could search for academic papers as references, so help from other editors is much needed. As moritheil says there are many other aspects to cover, and thank you for the barn star, although I feel I should have done more by now-life is busy here. And WLU, yes I am new around here, but at least I am trying to do something where nobody else much had. Academic references would be great, but Bancroft is a leading expert in abuser treatment programmes and his book is excellent and well worth reading, and also more accessible to most people. Consider using Google scholar and Google books in particular to find scholarly resources. Search for those produced by university press publishers (a lot now have wikipedia pages, which makes it easier). There is a lot of pop psychology out there, I'm OK, You're OK, and other stuff that's not based on research at all. This book is published by Greenwood Publishing Group, which is reliable, this one is by Springer Publishing which is reliable as well. I'm not so sure about what's being used now. I just stumbled across this article, and also found it had serious NPOV issues, though not for the reasons cited by expsychobabbler. Not sure what the article looked like at the time of their comments, but found that the current page is almost entirely a diatribe about the role of gender in psychological abuse, which would be sort of okay if the page made the argument that gender was a significant contributing factor in psychological abuse, except it doesn't. Most of the current text refutes an implied claim men are more abusive than women, concluding that both men and women are abusive at similar rates, and occasionally seems to imply that women can be more abusive than men by some measures. Gender is therefore described at length as an unimportant contributing factor to abuse, but more important contributing factors are barely discussed at all. In addition, the bulk of the article discusses relationship abuse, with very limited to no information on psychological bullying, workplace psychological abuse, psychological abuse of children, psychological abuse of elders, and racially inflected psychological abuse. Unless these forms of psychological abuse occur at insignificant rates compared to the prevalence of relationship abuse, these sections should be beefed up. Reading this article, I was left with the vague impression that psychological abuse is something perpetrated by both men and women (and by some measures, primarily women) within relationships, that can't be linked to cultural factors like supposed "male dominance" or "patriarchy." Is this really the most important thing for a reader to get out of an introductory discussion of psychological abuse? This is not my area of expertise, so I'm not in a position to beef up the article myself, but I do feel that it's very incomplete and doesn't provide the information it claims to! Psychological abuse happens in all contexts including schools. I think it best to put your text in school bullying although a section here would also be OK but beware your text needs to be supported by citations. What is this article about?

This article does not discuss psychological abuse. What it does discuss is "who abuses more, men or women?". It goes on and on and on on this topic, which I guess could be summaries in 2 to 5 sentences to show all the varying and changing opinions on connection - or lack thereof- between gender and abuse. I'll repeat once again: this article gives hardly any information on what psychological abuse is, what it looks like in practice, what it looks like in different environments (home/school/workplace/peer group), what are some forms of psychological abuse and so on - which are the things I - and I guess the majority of internet users - came hear to find out. The extended "women or men - who is more aggressive?" discussion is unnecessary, does not provide clear conclusions - I'm not saying it has to, but if it doesn't - why not just state "some research shows this but other shows different things" and move on to describing the actual topic of this article i.e. psychological abuse? "Who abuses?" is only a MINOR element of knowledge on this topic. It indeed seems like this article is heavily biased and is about what you have said ("Who abuses more"). It reads like a pamphlet trying to sell you the thesis "no proof men abuse more".

This article is very strange and seems to have many holes!!!!

Yes men and women can perpetrate emotional abuse. Statistics show it is usually men, by a large margin. Abusive men claim women are abusive in order to victim blame, this article is very poorly written, cited, and researched. Throughout history women have been oppressed and still are today. Nice try, to whoever wrote this, but you are wrong!! It's sad that no editors have taken the time to review this. Wikepedia has a chance to empower people with knowledge. I tried to find an article in wikipedia on "toxic relationships" and did not find one. When I googled "toxic relationship," wikipedia was autofilled in the search box indicating that others were looking for such an article here too. Hi Shelby! Good work. I like the copyedits that you made - you're a good writer! A few remarks though.

• An encyclopedia is not so much about accurately describing studies as it is about accurately describing information. So, if you instead of describing single studies could find reviews instead in which the results of many studies are described, that would be much better. Also, in describing the conclusions of a review, you don't need to write things like "N=80" which might not be understandable for those who don't have a higher education.
• You're generally referencing well, but there are some sentences still needing a reference. For instance: "Some researchers have, however, begun to develop methods to diagnose and treat such abuse, including the ability to: identify risk factors, provide resources to victims and their families, and ask appropriate questions to help identify the abuse." This sentence really needs a source.

Gaslighting

My husband Gaslight me. He takes things out of the trash keeps it hidden. Sometimes they are things I am presently using. He hides them. I buy more and the circle goes around. One day I will find Example,10twezzers. I just needed one but he keeper taking them and saying he doesn't know what I'm talking about. Then they show up in different places. Maybe 2or 3together. If I shope he finds the receipts and next day they are gone and 2 bags of lots of change is in their place. Scary time I got dressed in the morning and there was a knife under my cloths. Charlotte135 I don't think it's necessary to have a separate heading and section tbh, but expanding the existing workplace ones (effects, prevention, prevalence) and linking them to workplace bullying would be great. Reliable sources question

Hello Penbat and Holth and any one else. Should we be using MEDRS for this article? I have been looking through some of the sources used and they seem to be cherry-picked for some reason. IMO we should be using good quality sources, like journal sources, for the big claims at least, particulary those claims where statistics are used. There is a very large amount of recent literature that canand should be used instead of individual author's books, which too often are full of POV.Charlotte135 (talk) 03:43, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Listen I’ve been dealing with it my whole life but don’t let it ring u down u are everything u are important don’t let anyone tell y other wise they will get there Karma u shouldn’t have to deal with it I’m sorry u do just wait if it’s ur family u can leave after 18 if it’s relationship ditch then it’s not worth it u will be way happier without them there are better ppl so do what u think is best.
