Lede stuff: Geely “co-owns”. Eh? edit

Er…… We have “ Geely describes the brand as "independent" from 2017 onwards and "co-owned" by it and Volvo Cars.[2]” Is Wikipedia a mouthpiece for Geely? Volvo is a subsidiary of Geely. Are we to carry on the pretence that Polestar is not owned and controlled by Geely? I’m finding it very hard to believe that an independent editor wrote “Geely describes the brand as "independent" from 2017 onwards and "co-owned" by it and Volvo Cars.[2]”.. Ownership edit

Polestar is a Chinese-owned company. Interests associated with the company appear to be removing ownership details in a deliberate attempt to hide the ownership 220.240.182.128 (talk) 13:16, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

It literally already says Chinese owned in the first sentence of the article. Philipnelson99 (talk) 13:46, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's a Swedish company owned by Volvo, Geely buying stakes in Volvo doesn't make it a Chinese company. Your other claims are absurd. TylerBurden (talk) 15:43, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Geely owns both Volvo and Polestar. There is no middle ground where you can legitimately claim this as a swedish company.
Why else the interest in trying to pawn this off af a swedish company when it is 100% chinese owned? 185.25.142.199 (talk) 10:00, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
To begin with, it is not 100 % Chinese owned and your claim that it is shows that you do not meet WP:COMPETENCE. Both Volvo Cars and Polestar are publicly traded companies which means that besides the owners in China there are owners in many other countries. Second, the article about Polestar should follow the usual format for companies, which means that the owner's nationality does not change the nationality of the company. See how Wikipedia writes in the articles about MG cars, Škoda Auto, Jaguar Land Rover, Toblerone, XXXX (beer) and many others. Sjö (talk) 10:01, 2 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

If Donald trump bought Volvo it would be a trump company. If the Germans bought Huawei it would now be a German company. If I bought your house it would now be my house. But you seem to be saying if the Chinese bought a Swedish company it is still Swedish. Not logical or consistent with the facts. Also check the MG cars listing to understand how other companies and editors are truthful 120.21.74.167 (talk) 21:29, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

IP, this is not only block evasion, but WP:BLUDGEONING. The reason the company is listed as Swedish has been explained well by the other editors in this thread, so first of all stop evading your block, and second of all stop bludgeoning the discussion, you are not going to change anything by brute force. The people who are hiding the Chinese ownership need to do their research. Until today I did it realise Wikipedia was a dishonest and biased resource.

@InterestGather, you may want to see this conversation. Philipnelson99 (talk) 21:35, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Some editors want to put Chinese owned at the front of the article but haven't give a clear reason why or tried to discuss the change. Philipnelson99 (talk) 21:37, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have no issue with it being listed as a Chinese owned company, I do not know much information about the topic and have no skin in the game. What I do have an issue with is the "Let me try to explain. If Donald trump bought Volvo it would be a trump company. If the Germans bought...." Explanation pasted in the article. Once that's sorted I have no objections to whatever changes you guys can agree upon with sources on ownership. ✯✬✩InterestGather (talk) 21:40, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
My rationale for not including Chinese owned here is that it's already including over at Geely which is linked in the intro to the article. I don't think it needs to be included here and it certainly doesn't need to be at the very start of the sentence. Also accusing editors of being paid by governments isn't a good look. Philipnelson99 (talk) 21:45, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also, I'm refraining from any more reverts on this article but please don't talk in article space. Philipnelson99 (talk) 21:47, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I personally would agree. The current state looks good to me, especially if the company is still Headquartered in Sweden. ✯✬✩InterestGather (talk) 21:47, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Notice that it says "Polestar is a Swedish automotive brand" not "Polestar is a Swedish automotive company". Different meanings. Is Bentley a German brand? Is Rolls-Royce a German brand? Is Holden an American brand? Andra Febrian (talk) 01:38, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Bentley
Bentley Motors Limited is a British designer, manufacturer and marketer of luxury cars and SUVs. Headquartered in Crewe, England
-
Rolls-Royce
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited is a British luxury automobile maker which has operated as a wholly... ....The company's administrative and production headquarters are located on the Goodwood Estate in Goodwood, West Sussex, England, United Kingdom.
-
Holden
Holden, formerly known as General Motors-Holden, was an Australian subsidiary company of General Motors. It was headquartered in Port Melbourne, Australia
-
Looks like Polestar is accurate to the examples listed, I don't see any reason to list it as a Chinese company in the introduction whilst it is headquartered in Sweden.

Thanks for looking up all of that @InterestGather. I agree with you. Philipnelson99 (talk) 21:25, 25 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree with your reasoning completely. 185.25.142.199 (talk) 10:01, 1 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
