Comment edit

The last section of the page labeled 'Pikmin' is pretty poorly written. I would edit it, but I'm unsure as to what the author was intending (also, I'm unfamiliar with Pikmin 2). There are numerous misspellings which should have been caught, and numerous other misused homonyms. The rest of the page looks quite good however. (6/6/05)

Someone Wikilinked waaaay too many random words. Would it be okay to break most of these links? 198.178.132.253 (talk) 22:58, 14 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Pikmin 3 edit

Stop putting Pikmin 3 in the See Also section. There isn't an article on it, so there's not point in putting a link to it. The Ðark Crusader 03:20, 12 February 2007 (UTC) Pikmin 3 has been confirmed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.169.76.145 (talk) 14:47, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pikmin 3 has mixed feelings about how confirmed it is, and I don't think there are enough citeable sources to actually form an "upcoming release" style article on it. That said, it doesn't make sense to link to "Pikmin 3" (as the text for the link) and actually take the user to a section on the series. It makes sense for that to not be a link unless there's a devoted page to it. 75.87.177.37 (talk) 22:04, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Louie edit

I think because the description is here, Louie shoould redirect here rather than to the Pikmin 2 page. Also, pictures should be added next to thier descriptions.

Fair use rationale for Image:Pikmin-2-2.jpg edit

Image:Pikmin-2-2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Why were Captain Olimar's and Pikmin's pages deleted? edit

I think that Captain Olimar and Pikmin have a lot to do in the series and should not be taken out. And since they now have an appearence in Brawl, they're popularity will just increase. Don't say they are insignificant, they're important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.227.181.178 (talk) 21:08, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nothing can be done, I'm afraid. There aren't enough fans of Pikmin to rescue any article but the games. After all, it takes quite a bit of time to hunt down citations, and it takes approximately 20 seconds to kill an article.

Oops, wasn't signed in.

Kirby-oh (talk) 02:09, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

The core of the info is here, and I'm willing to resurrect the Olimar page if there's enough info to put on it. Honestly, though, this article needs to be kept under control first. I had to do major work on it to get it to this point. Coreycubed (talk) 14:26, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Distant Planet edit

Um yeah if you don't remember, there was no name for the Planet that Olimar crash landed on, so the name "Distant Planet" for the SSBB stage makes sense, since the planet was distant. So we have to get rid of the speculation about the level and it being apart of Pikmin 3Onepiece226 (talk) 20:12, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Onepiece226Reply

Merger of Captain Olimar edit

The article violates WP:NOT#PLOT in its first two sections, violates WP:NOT#GUIDE in the next section, then PLOT again, two sentences that are probably okay, unsourced WP:TRIVIA, and finally a section that may be okay again. An appropriate summary of the character can already be found in the series article. To support the character article, it needs content like a creation&conception section, a sourced characteristics section and a reception section from reliable sources. Interested editors are encouraged to add such content to ultimately keep the article, or the article will be merged/redirected back to the series article. Pikmin 3 edit

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/07/16/liveblog-from-nintendos-2008-e3-developer-roundtable/

"7:38 In response to a question about whether or not a new Pikmin is in the works, Miyamoto says he'll announced the new game when he's ready. Apparently he's ready now. "We're making Pikmin," the translator says. OMG MEGATONZ! Huge applause from the audience."

However, please be sure to not create an article for it - we know nothing of it thus far, so we shouldn't need an article. - A Link to the Past (talk) 02:53, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pikmin 3 Details edit

Myamoto said "I certainly don't think, we've seen the last of Pikmin" couldn't he have been hinting Captain Olimar in Super Smash Bros. Brawl or New Play Control! Pikmin/Pikmin 2? 99.241.163.57 (talk) 20:20, 2 August 2009 (UTC) Somedbody add teh GDC bit. miyamato himself confirmed Pikmin 3 at Game developers conference, and it should definitely be added —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.171.1.45 (talk) 04:42, 20 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Genre? edit

Pikmin is not what I would think of when I hear the phrase real-time strategy. RTS suggests controlling an army base and trying to capture other army bases, not a big-nosed alien wandering around using a bunch of anthropomorphic vegetables to solve puzzles. Can't think what else you would call it, mind. Maybe an adventure game with strategy and puzzle elements? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.26.13.2 (talk) 00:51, 21 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Just because a game doesn't match the visual style of others in its genre doesn't mean it's not within that genre itself; by that reasoning I could say "when I think of online shooters I don't think of squid people spitting non-lethal ink at each other and swimming through it." Pikmin does involve building and controlling an army, securing resources, protecting your base, and taking advantage of your units' specializations, all in real time and within a time limit, as with any other RTS. Therefore, it belongs within the RTS genre. 2601:4A:4000:720:1439:BE6:4F99:FF17 (talk) 16:08, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Pikmin 4 - E3 2017 Update edit

Case for name change to Pikmin edit

Should this article's name be changed to "Pikmin" and the existing page called "Pikmin" be renamed to "Pikmin (video game)"? Reasons for would be consistency reasons based on other Nintendo series articles and because typically "Pikmin" refers to not the first game but the series both officially and by the consumer base. ~ P*h3i (talk to me) 04:35, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

– There are 4 Pikmin games and a possible 5th on the way, making it unlikely that the original Pikmin is the primary topic. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 10:16, 10 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Support, even if just to get rid of the bad disambiguation "series". --Gonnym (talk) 17:12, 10 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom. Only under exceptional circumstances is a single game primary over its series (in essence, the sum is almost always greater than its parts). Also, yes, the (series) disambiguator should be deprecated outright. -- Netoholic @ 18:58, 10 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom and WP:COMMONSENSE. Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3 seem to be notable enough to not make the first game a primary topic [2]. Jovanmilic97 (talk) 21:50, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Pikmin Descriptions edit

It seems redundant to have in depth descriptions of each pikmin type in both the gameplay and the plot section. It would be better to only include these descriptions in one of the two sections. Bagel82 (talk) 19:47, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
