Absolutely! I'm in no way proprietary about this entry. (And, if I were, that'd be my problem, not yours. :) Though I'm familiar with McIntire's contributions to Charlottesville, I was surprised to learn a bit about his contributions to the university as I googled around a bit during lunch today. I'd be grateful for any information you could provide about McIntire, as I imagine many other people would be, too.--WaldoJ (talk) 19:27, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Neutral POV and status as philanthropist edit

As there appears to be some disagreement over what constitutes neutral tone in this case, I've created this topic. The article currently describes McIntire as a "generous" philanthropist, citing donations to the University of Virginia and the commissioning of several statues. In this user's opinion, a characterization of McIntire as a "philanthropist"—especially with the modifier, "generous"—is an inappropriate insertion of subjective opinion that neglects the context and content of McIntire's most notable and enduring additions to the public square; namely, the large memorials to Confederate generals that fought against the United States in defense of the practice of slavery.

Unless someone cares to object, I'll reapply my changes to the article, minus the change of "generous" to "self-styled".
