Merge edit

There may be a year (era) difference between Vikram Samvat and Nepal Sambat but most of the former article merely consists of a duplicate discussion of the Nepali calendar without discussion or link to this article. They should probably be fully merged if the Vikram Samvat is only important because of its use in Nepal; in any case most of the content should merge here and be linked. Only one of them is the national calendar, not both. — LlywelynII 02:24, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

As calendar eras, Vikrama Samvat (57 BCE) and Nepal Sambat (879 CE) are two completely different topics. The former was used in an area far extensive than Nepal, and is of far greater importance as an encyclopedic topic. Googling "Vikrama era" can give one an idea of its importance.
The calendars based on these eras are not same either:
  • In India, the Vikram Samvat calendars are lunar calendars: either purnimanta (a begins on a full moon day) or amanta (a month begins on a new moon day).
  • The Vikram Samvat (or Bikram Sambat) calendar used by the Government of Nepal is a solar calendar. The Nepal Sambat calendar is a different, lunar-based calendar.
A better solution would be to trim Vikram Samvat to remove the unsourced Nepal-specific content and other stuff that belongs in the article Hindu calendar. utcursch | talk 00:29, 9 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Era notation edit

This article currently uses a mixture of AD and CE. Usage needs to be consistent. I suggest converting all AD to CE. See Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Dates_and_numbers#Era_style. —DIV (1.144.105.12 (talk) 15:17, 24 June 2019 (UTC))Reply
