Rename & Move

I've moved this page back to the title "NOAA Corps". This is in line with Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names), which states that articles should be at the title that a random user would be most likely to think of. No one would ever expand the "NOAA" acronym when referring to the NOAA Corps. Isomorphic 06:22, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Please read Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names). Wikipedia convention has always been to use the most common name as the article title, not the most correct or fullest name. Hence we have "Jimmy Carter" rather than "James Earl Carter, Jr.." If you disagree with this convention, you'll need to raise it in a broader forum than the talk page of one article. Undecided At first I agreed with Isomorphic's original comment. But then when I thought about how USMC is a redirect to United States Marine Corps, I realized it was opposite. As long as there is an article and a redirect, I'm good to go. -- MrDolomite | Talk 03:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

I moved the NOAA Corps name to it full Federal government agency name to help people clearify that "NOAA" actually stands for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the make sure the acrnym isn't mistaken for the actual name and not National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Corps. Organization

• Heh, sorry for the edits of this section. From what I can find, the highest authorized rank for the NOAA Corps is vice admiral [1]. But, the current NOAA directives appendix 1.1 dated Nov 25, 2003, puts the rank of the Director NOAA Corps as rear admiral (uppper half). I guess this makes him feel like he has room for promotion. :-) Seriously though, any improvemnts on how to organize/cite this info are welcome -- MrDolomite | Talk 02:59, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Lack of pertinent information

Reading this article the following is the only actual relevant information regarding the NOAACC: "The NOAA Corps today provides a cadre of professionals trained in engineering, earth sciences, oceanography, meteorology, fisheries science, and other related disciplines. Officers operate ships, fly aircraft, manage research projects, conduct diving operations, and serve in staff positions throughout NOAA."

This is weak. I still don't understand what the NOAACC does. If anyone every spends the time to edit or improve this article they should start with actually discussing what the **** the NOACC is and does for the US. Beam 22:30, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
