Notable authors

The biographies under the "notable authors" heading have a very unprofessional tone and many were likely written by the authors themselves. I think the whole section needs a rewrite. --Steven.Harris ^{(T | C)} 06:20, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

As with similar articles (like List of essayists, for example), the list should be only those that meet notability requirements, such as a Wikipedia articles or references to sources that meet WP:RS. Flowanda | Talk 21:20, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes by doing this, but given Steven Harris' comment above, I've removed the following authors because they don't meet the notability requirements. It seems to me that merely being a published author doesn't make the author notable. I'd prefer to see at least a couple newspaper, or other periodical articles about the author to justify including them as a notable author. -- Kslarsen (talk) 22:09, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I'd say be bold about removing links, although it wold be helpful to know where those links came from. We have some Jerry Borrowman papers here at BYU and might try to write a page on him, but if you remove his name we can always add it back in after we establish notability.Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 19:39, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Links to LDS Bookstores

Is it just me, or is the link to LDSGrand.com basically self promoting. Its not like this is the LDS Amazon.com or anything!! It seems to me that either a serious attempt should be made to list many LDS bookstores, or these links should be left out.

I also question including Dialogue in the list of LDS Publishers. The list should probably make the distinction between book publishers (the others) and magazine and journal publishers -- the latter should also include Sunstone, Irreantum and probably also Segullah.

Image copyright problem with Image:Floravfisher.jpg

Original research?

When I removed http://www.motleyvision.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/slowlyflowering_mormonlit_wmmorris2000.pdf from the article as an improper source per WP:ELNO, I was concerned that it might have been used broadly for the structure and content of this article. I don't have time to look back in the history to confirm atm, but I wanted to at least note the possibility of an WP:OR problem.

Additionally, the link has references. Maybe some can be used as sources for the article if they aren't yet. --Ronz (talk) 21:19, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

I think you meant plagiarism, not OR. However, the article doesn't really parallel scholar and editor Morris's piece, in any case.--Hodgson-Burnett's Secret Garden (talk) 10:05, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Notable authors who aren't listed?

I was just noticing that Anne Perry isn't listed under notable authors. I would have just added her, but her page doesn't mention anything about her religion. Might be a lead someone else could pursue (or me when I'm not at work).Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 19:39, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

– Other than LDS edition of the Bible, which does refer specifically to the edition published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, these are the only two article titles related to Mormons or LDS that begin with "LDS". As we otherwise have cultural articles on Mormon art, Mormon blogosphere, Mormon folk music, Mormon folklore, Mormon literature, and Mormon music, this would create consistency. I'm guessing there's no need for the scope of the articles on fiction and cinema to be restricted to works by and for LDS Mormons, just as these other articles aren't so restricted. • So far, there isn't information on non-LDS Mormon authors on this page. I haven't looked specifically for writers in other sects, but I also haven't come across any information on Mormon writers outside the LDS faith. Move to Latter-day Saint Fiction

Mormon is archaic and not used religiously, nor in fiction industry. Latter-day Saint is how the authors self describe themselves, as well as the industry as a whole. The magazines and publishing companies that advertise such books use Latter-day Saint as well. It just makes sense. MihaelMaxenglish1 (talk) 09:35, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Mihael, I think that this subject is somewhat controversial and care should be taken to determine how to name this page. While use of the term "Mormon" has been discouraged by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it is not the only Church to arise from Joseph Smith's efforts. There may be a role for using "Mormon" as an umbrella term for the Latter-day Saint restoration movement.

OTOH, this article is largely about the fiction of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and doesn't seem to include anything from other churches within the Latter-day Saint movement -- so maybe your move makes sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kslarsen (talk • contribs) 15:24, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

FWIW, I also question Mihael's assertion because within those who study literature by Latter-day Saints (notably the Association for Mormon Letters), this is still largely referred to as "Mormon literature" Kent Larsen (talk) 15:31, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

How much of this should be on the Mormon literature page or a Latter-day Saint literature page?

I'm trying to work on improving the Mormon literature page and I think much of what appears on this page should really be on the Mormon literature page -- i.e., it is more about all forms of literature instead of just fiction. I plan to prepare a proposal for how to divide the content of this page into "literature" and "fiction" Kent Larsen (talk) 15:31, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
