72.159.2.254 18:47, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Note: This article needs at the very least a listing of the rivers that feed into the bay. There are at least two and possibly three, but I'm not willing to look them up at the moment. -- SteveSmith, originator In addition to The Mobile and Tensaw Rivers at the head of the bay, and Dog River and Fowl River on the western shore, there are also three rivers that feed into the bay on the eastern side. They are Fish River and Magnolia River that come together in Weeks Bay before emptying into Mobile Bay, and Bon Secour River that feeds into Bon Secour Bay which opens into Mobile Bay. A discussion of the geology of Mobile Bay would also be nice to have here. Frank Stabler.Reply

Removing largest bay claims edit

Article says: It is the largest natural bay on the Gulf of Mexico and also the second largest bay in the U.S., behind Chesapeake Bay. There is no mention of how large the bay actually is in square miles, and my google search failed, but given the dimensions of the bay I estimate it at about 300-400 square miles. There are many many larger bays in the United States, such as Delaware Bay and San Francisco Bay, in addition to Chesapeake Bay. Some very large bays whose size I could not determine but are clearly much larger than Mobile include Bristol Bay and other bays in Alaska, and Saginaw Bay. So "second largest in the United States" is wrong. As for largest bay on the Gulf of Mexico (I'm assuming "in the United States" is unsaid here), there seem to be several larger bays: Florida Bay (800-1000 sq mi) and Galveston Bay (600 sq mi). Matagorda Bay is about 350 sq mi, about equal to Mobile Bay. Then there are others, clearly quite large but harder to find stats for, like Apalachee Bay, Whitewater Bay, Atchafalaya Bay, and Barataria Bay.

Anyway, long story short: I'm removing that claim. Pfly (talk) 05:20, 8 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
