Seaoftimes7 (talk) 14:15, 3 October 2020 (UTC) Mikel Arteta games as manager should be 34 played, 6 draws and 7 loss as of 03/10/2020 Someone keeps changing that, either they do not understand football, i assume the two games where the games have ended in 1-1 (Arsenal won on penalty 5-4 and won the community shield) against liverpool in August, and the other one which ended in 0-0 (but Arsenal won 5-4) and knocked liverpool out of competition on penalty again yesterday has been classified as a draw! Needs to be corrected, it's a win. Outright! thanks

Change nationality to Basque from Spanish

In a couple of places in this entry it is written that Arteta is Spanish, or has a Spanish surname. This is incorrect. He is a Basque with a Basque name. I will edit unless someone can show he is actually Spanish. If you wish to write he is Basque from the country of Spain you can but that is waste of words imo. see WP:ETHNICITY, Arteta is a Spanish citizen with a Spanish passport who represented Spanish youth national teams. Despite being ethnically Basque who speaks Basque and was born in Basque Country, he is listed in the lead as Spanish. His name is Basque correct, whilst this article doesn't have an IPA translation, if it did have an IPA, it would be listed as Basque, just as Pep Guardiola's is Catalan. This suggestion from the original poster is absurd. Why on Earth someone have to "show" that Arteta is Spanish, given that he was born there and played for their youth teams. Show me the "Basque passport" he used to work abroad. Spain is a nation of many ethnicities, so someone can be of Basque ethnicity and Spanish nationality, that is no way a contradiction. This is like saying somebody is not of Indian nationality because he is of Tamil ethnicity, it's a non sequitur. The OP's names and edits suggest being Welsh; the surname Bale is English of Norman origin [1], and to my understanding Gareth Bale only speaks English. But what would you do if I then suggested Gareth Bale is therefore English, despite being born in and playing for Wales? 81.79.177.116 (talk) 18:57, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

Managerial statistics

With the game against Fulham (March 12) there is stories about Arteta's 100th win as Arsenal manager, and the stats here is edited to show this. But these 100 wins include two draws (the link to the arsenal.com article even shows these with an asterix). That's not the way managerial statistics has usually been done. It's the best possible kind of draw, when you advance or get to take a trophy home, but statistically it still counts as a draw. 86.52.164.151 (talk) 21:24, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

I agree, rather unusual that they've released the stats with asterisks for pen wins. I've left it as 99 (after palace win) and added the footballdatabase.eu ref, for people to refer back to. Idiosincrático (talk) 13:05, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

Curious pacing

The section on Arsenal this season contains four very long paragraphs and 35 citations, most of which were added the same day of publication, i.e. every day he won a match or won an award. It then ends abruptly with him picking up manager of the month for March 2023. This feels like ending a biography of George Best with him lifting the European Cup in 1968, we all know what happened next. There's so much more that's been written about the subject, but nobody's felt like adding it. Over two weeks later and nobody has attempted to write anything about how the season unravelled, apart from one unsourced line with spin that would make a politician blush, saying that Arsenal "comfortably qualified" for the Champions League. People are obviously eager to write about Arteta and Arsenal when things go right, as they did for three quarters of the season (look how detailed the section is to that point!), but not when things go wrong. 81.79.141.206 (talk) 10:05, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

So you think it's just coincidental that the page stops when Arsenal stopped winning matches? That people who were adding every Arsenal win and record on the day it happened, were doing so out of an objective desire to educate the public, and then suddenly lost interest? Your user name suggests being a Blackpool fan, would you think it would just be a coincidence if the article on your club ended with the 1953 FA Cup final, or if the article on your Premier League season ended with you in first place after the first game? I could add the rest of the season myself, but I don't know enough about Arsenal to keep up with the PACING of the section, to dedicate as much coverage to the last third of the season as was put into the first two thirds. And omitting things wholesale is definitely not neutral, like if an article said the Oystons were just local businessmen who took Blackpool to the Premier League. 84.66.119.53 (talk) 21:12, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

I added a mention of the consecutive losses (after which Arsenal wasn't in the running) and clarified the significance of the champion's league qualification and removed the NPOV. I'm loath to edit down the earlier text, but I think it wouldn't be outrageous if you wanted to cut some of that down to express how the performance was mid-season vs. end-season.
