I have reverted to an earlier version because "St Helens is a town in the historic county of Lancashire. Following the 1974 boundary changes it was adopted as a metropolitan borough in Merseyside. It is named for its main town, St Helens. Many people do not realise that Merseyside is only an administrative county and that it doesn't actually exist in it's own right." is in the wrong place. Firstly,this feature is for the Metroplitan Borough.I sympathise with the statment that "St Helens is a town in the historic county of Lancashire." but it belongs on the St Helens entry. Secondly, it is not true to say that "Merseyside... doesn't actually exist in it's own right". It may be only an administrative county (Actually its current status is a "ceremonial county") but something created by Parliament must have some legally validity.

Actually, many people do not realise that St.Helens is NOT a town in ANY historic county.
St.Helens is an 'administrative area' created, in the 18th century, by the union of more than one town, for administrative purposes.
The title 'Metropolitan Borough OF' St.Helens need not be used. 'St.Helens', alone, is, in truth, a Borough, not a 'town'. So, on saying that 'Merseyside does not exist', it can also be argued that St.Helens 'does not exist'! (although, in reality, we know that Merseyside DOES exist - Merseyside POLICE - Merseyside INTEGRATED TRANSPORT AUTHORITY, 'MITA' - Merseyside FIRE SERVICE - etc.. Only a small-minded idiot would suggest otherwise.)

- Hi, I have edited a few items on the St Helens page and have used the term "St Helens Council" as that is what the source states, but St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council seems to be in use as well and I am not sure how to handle this so would be interested to hear the thoughts of other Wikipedians. I In fact I wonder whether the two separate pages are needed but I'm very new to editing so thought it best to ask here. Thanks Faktoj gravas (talk) 06:36, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

- No problem. For whatever reason the Council is known as "St Helens Council" for the last decade or so, but is incorporated as "St Helens Metropolitan Borough Council" since the 70's. Reference to "St Helens Borough Council" would usually historically only refer to the pre-1972 version. However functionally they are all the same concept, although some boundaries moved in '72 meaning that there is a practical difference on some matters. Koncorde (talk) 19:17, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
