Translated from English? edit

Hi Revolution Saga, nice article. Regarding this sentence: "He also translated excerpts from Shakespeare, Chesterfield, John Milton, John Locke, Alexander Pope, Lord Byron, and Robert Burns into Armenian". Did Taghiadian translate from English into Armenian? - LouisAragon (talk) 21:32, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! Yes, there's no indication in the sources that he translated from some third language. He studied at Bishop's College and knew English. Revolution Saga (talk) 21:41, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Great. Then I will add the Category:Translators from English category. :-) - LouisAragon (talk) 21:44, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Review comments edit

Lead section / infobox edit

  • The lead needs to be expanded to make it more of “a summary of its most important contents” (WP:LEAD).
  • now part of India – amend to ‘now modern Kolkata’ (here and in the following section).

1 Biography edit

  • Unlink Paris; India (MOS:OL).
  • Give the full name for Grotius. Ditto Shakespeare; Chesterfield.
  • ''They had two sons together, both of whom died at a young age – consider amending to something like ‘Both their sons died at a young age’.
  • Amend De veritate religionis Christianae within {{lang|la|De veritate religionis Christianae}}.
  • second son died – has this not been mentioned already?
  • After the death of his wife – seems redundant, and so can be edited out.
  • ''in Constantinople – amend to ‘there’ to improve the prose slightly.
  • was targeted for persecution - ‘was persecuted’ sounds better imo.
  • Can this be subdivided to help readers?
  • Link Poghos Gharadaghtsi (Poghos Gharadaghtsi [hy]); folk songs (Armenian folk music); deacon; Ottoman (Ottoman Empire); scholarship; master's degree; clerical (Clergy); missionaries; peddler; pedagogical (Pedagogy); diaspora (Armenian diaspora); novel; seminary; monks.

2 Views and style edit

  • Romantic is a duplicate link.
  • Link patriotic ideals (Patriotism); dialect; European colonialism (History of colonialism, European is possibly redundant).
  • Great Britain – ‘the British’ (or the United Kingdom’).

3 Works edit

  • The section lacks citations.

4 Notes edit

  • Note a needs a citation.

7 External links edit

  • Amend the text to something like ‘List of works by Mesrop Taghiadian’ from the Greenstone digital library collection
