Removal of "black squirrels" as "unencyclopedic" ??? edit

Hmm... a user removed the section on black squirrels, citing it as "unencyclopedic" ... I don't really know what that means, but I do believe that it is pertinent information. Other cities listed in Wikipedia have a section of "nicknames" if the town has one, and I see no reason for a paragraph explaining why Marysville is considered the "Black Squirrel City" ... anyone else have thoughts?? --Paul McDonald 02:03, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, I put it back. Perhaps he thought it was a joke or didn't realize how seriously Marysville takes its squirrels. Originally (May 2006), quite a long and unencyclopedic section on the squirrels was added, which someone else immediately reverted. Later someone put in this succinct version. --GregU 08:51, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Looks good to me. I'm not from Marysville, but I am familair with the town. There are signs all over the town naming it "black squirrel city" and I believe that would be noteworthy enough to put something in this encyclopedia--in fact, I think it would be very wrong to omit that information.--Paul McDonald 20:17, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

It definitely looked like a joke. As well, lots of towns have nicknames that are colloquial and undeserving of being mentioned. Since I know it's true and an official name, I'm sorry — most definitely an official nickname deserves mention!. Nevertheless, it needs work: could someone please source it, and perhaps post a picture of one of these "black squirrel city" signs? Thanks! Nyttend 18:27, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
No worries, when someone has as much through-put as you, this is the most efficient way to work. I found a ref, and will see if I can find someone to take a picture. --GregU 17:57, 10 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
