I will be maintaining the table below as I go through my review, updating and making notes

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)

1. It is reasonably well written.

2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.

   Sourcing looks fine to me, reliable, appropriate for the content etc. but I have a question below on the information provided on the print sources.

3. It is broad in its coverage.

   Unfortunately it is not broad, it's football, football and more football until he retired. Is there nothing else? Anything about his personal life in any way? Nothing on his life since 1988? That's almost 30 years. Cannot put in what is not found in sources

4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.

   Fair representation without bias:

   Looks good

5. It is stable.

   No edit wars, etc.:

   I am not seeing anything to indicate any content disputes.

6. It is illustrated by images and other media, where possible and appropriate.

   No images at all, not a blocker just a shame - but he played before everyone had cellphones and knew what an image license is so I am not surprised. Since he's living fair use is iffy too, so this is the only real option.

7. Overall:

   Pass/Fail:

   A few issues to be addressed, nothing overwhelmingly bad so I am putting this on hold, I know you are busy so I'd be happy to keep this open longer than 7 days if you need the time.

Prose review

• Is "Marv" his actual first name? Not Marvin or anything else?
  • Correct. I own an encyclopedia that lists biographical information and stats for all CFL players in the modern era (cite 5). When a player goes by a nickname, it lists the nickname where their full name is followed by their full first name. In this entry, there is only "Marv". • notably played at the position of center reads odd to me, I've never heard it referred to as "at the center position" and I've played center in the Danish Football League. Is that a common way to refer to it or maybe just simply "played the center position" or just "played center"?
  • Agreed, the phrasing was awkward. I believe most of the lead predated my participation in the article, and I regularly forget to copyedit them. Good catch! ~ Rob₁₃^Talk 01:44, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
    • Much better
• He most notably played at the position of center for the Tiger-Cats and Rough Riders later in his career. - makes it sound like he played other positions for most of his career, might be worth mentioning the other positions in the lead
  • Non-starting offensive linemen are often shuffled around to plug different holes in the roster both as backup and in the event of injury. It's not abnormal for offensive lineman to play as several of the positions (right and left tackle, right and left guard, center). In this case, saying he's an offensive lineman covers all those positions. As far as I found in sources, he never consistently played any position other than center; he was just shuffled around like most. ~ Rob₁₃^Talk 01:44, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

• When injuries didn't force Allemang into a starting role, he was a back-up for both the offensive and defensive lines. - I get what you are trying to say but this reads really weird, can you perhaps revise the sentence so it is clearer?

• Maybe it's just me but I am having a hard time with the end of the article. First it states he was nominated for the Leo Durand Trophy for the 1988-1989 season, only to turn around and be forced to retire or be cut? Could you provide additional context here because it reads really odd and a 180 turn.
  • Added context. He was the victim of a new head coach's desire for young players moving forward. As a 14-year veteran, Allemang's effectiveness would be likely to decrease sharply over the next few seasons, while Goldman wanted to develop young players who may stick with the franchise well into the future. The move was during the offseason, which means it likely had little to do with Allemang's current ability. It would not have been based on any activity in camp, etc. ~ Rob₁₃^Talk 01:44, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Sources and Verifiability

• Whenever I see sources in the lead I always check to see if the claims are only in the lead. I do not see the claim that he was named the Tiger-Cats' "Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman", that really should be in the main article. The other sources in the lead are not needed, but I won't count it against the article if you have a reason to keep them.
  • This nomination was for the Leo Dandurand Trophy, which goes to the most outstanding offensive lineman. That was already in the body of the article, and I've removed the somewhat confusing text from the lead. It's not that significant just to be nominated, so not lead material. ~ Rob₁₃^Talk 01:44, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
• FOOTBALL CFL serious about dumping Carling" should not have "football" in all caps, even if the article title has it.

• Is it possible to provide more info on the printed sources? pages, publisher location anything else in the "cite news" template? I'd say page is probably the one that would help the most
  • Sadly, no. I provide pages where I find them, but not publishers for major newspapers because they usually publish themselves I believe. I find my offline sources via LexisNexis Academic, and the information there is rather sparse. The Globe and Mail does not include page numbers in their LexisNexis entries. Other papers (Toronto Star, etc) already have page numbers listed. ~ Rob₁₃^Talk 01:44, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

  • @MPJ-DK: I've addressed your comments inline (tonight is one of my few "relaxation" nights ). As for breadth, sadly, there's not too much in the reliable sources have. The CFL doesn't have anywhere near as extensive of coverage as the NFL, and once a player leaves the league, they often drop off the face of the earth in the reliable sources. I did find one source from his college that covers his post-football career and inserted that information, but I could find no more.
