Talk:Marthandam

I removed the external link because although it talked about the general area, there was nothing on it specifically about Marthandam. Roachmeister 13:04, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

I removed the following since the culture is not at all different from tamils/indians. dadadadasda Culture of Kazhuvanthitai : In a country as diverse and complex as India, it is not surprising to find that people here in Kazhuvanthitai to reflect the rich glories of the past, the culture, traditions and values relative to geographic locations and the numerous distinctive manners, habits and food that will always remain truly Indian. Deep-rooted family values continue to exist in Kazhuvanthitai families. Men are still considered the head of a family and are consulted for all decisions though they no longer continue to be the single breadwinner. Parents are looked upon with respect and regard. Children are financially supported by their parents throughout their education.

This entire section reads like a travel advertisement. I fail to see a relevant connection to Marthandam. Besides, it is highly over-emphasized, making up almost half the article. If no reasons for keeping this section are given, I will remove or shorten it in a few days. Huon 09:44, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Second Largest town in kanyakumari edit

The second largest town in Kanyakumari District is not Marthandam. Marthandam is Second largest Commercial center on the basis of commercial income and population density .

The largest town in Kanyakumari District is Nagercoil (Municipality) with a population 208,179

Second largest town is Kolachel (Municipality) with a population 23,787

Refer govt of India census website(http://www.censusindia.gov.in/Dist_File/datasheet-3330.pdf) . They mentions only first 3 laregst towns in each district. Martandam is not even third. So I am deleting this misleading information.

May be you can mention as Marthandam as second largest commercial center (though I am not sure) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Antonylejos (talkcontribs) 05:57, 19 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Second Largest town in Kanyakumari District is not misleading edit

The people in Kanykumari District very well understand that Marthandam is the Second Largest Town in the District. Every town/village/city in India are known according to their Postal Index Number Code. The PIN Code for Marthandam is 629165 which includes the adjacent Villages Nallur, Viricode and Nattalam (www.indiapost.gov.in/Pin/Pinsearch.aspx?Pin_On=629165). But for Administrative purpose its area was divided and added to Nattalam & Unnamalaikadai Town Panchayats and Kuzhithurai Municipality. Moreover out of the 21 wards in Kuzhithurai Municipality, 11 wards are from Marthandam (municipality.tn.gov.in/kuzhithurai/who_councilors.htm). Therefore, Marthandam is the second largest town in Kanyakumari District.27.57.227.4 (talk) 07:15, 9 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal edit

I propose that Martandam be merged into Marthandam. Both articles refer to the same place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.199.14.203 (talk) 01:52, 2 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

I second this...both articles are nearly identical
