Tom Waits

While Ribot's guitar has contributed to Tom Waits' sound on several records since Rain Dogs in 1986, it is inappropriate to say that he is "perhaps best known for his playing with Tom Waits." Ribot is an avant garde composer and guitarist who has always made a living as a sessions player. He has had equally long relationships with other composers and song writers like Elvis Costello and John Zorn. To highlight his work with Waits that way is POV that simply suggests that editor's familiarity with Waits and the personnel on his records. It seems more appropriate to just list Waits among the other artists Ribot has recorded with.Nepal Tree 04:15, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Taper unfriendly

Ribot appears on the dimeadozen Not Allowed list. It should be assumed that he is generally taper unfriendly. Wwwhatsup (talk) 19:56, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Singer-Songwriter???=

I question the description of Ribot as a singer-songwriter and vocalist. While many of his recordings do feature his vocals, just as many feature his trumpet playing but he's not considered a trumpeter by any measure. I've changed the description to reflect his primary focus as a guitarist. DISEman (talk) 02:38, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

The use of the background field in the infobox is described at Template:Infobox Musical artist#Background. Basically, any artist that does some singing falls under the solo singer category. This designation only affects the template colour and does not show up except when editing. The occupation field is a better place to describe Ribot as a guitarist.
