This is not an encyclopedia article, it's an advertisement, probably written for him by his "students." Oh, but it's Wikipedia, so what can you expect?24.90.188.108 (talk) 10:43, 21 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

His official website, marclamonthill . com, listed in the references, has been flagged as a known distributor of malware by Google Chrome. Should the link be deactivated? --Otterbyte (talk) 13:19, 8 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Honestly, MLH is a wannabe MLK/MalcolmX and his article should be scrubbed...but he does work for CNN so he is just barely notable-enough 74.77.42.58 (talk) 22:51, 18 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Assessment comment edit

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Marc Lamont Hill/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

Why is he introduced "Marc Lamont Hill is an African American professor..."? That isn't listed for anyone else. "John Smith is a Caucasian professor..." "Dr. Wong has an Asian ethnic background and is a professor..." It isn't appropriate

Material arbitrarily deleted edit

The following was deleted with justification "not his quote":

Hill called for Palestinians to be allowed "to use any methods necessary to resist Israel".[1]

Which is absurd, as he is quoted directly. XavierItzm (talk) 22:46, 29 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

The subject is clearly known for calling the the destruction of Israel (per the ADL and others) - Guardian - and being fired from CNN for it. This should be clearly presented in the article.Icewhiz (talk) 06:24, 30 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

'Anti-semite' smear? edit

As this is a biography of a living person I have removed the words in the intro that perpetrated and repeated a smear against Prof. Hill's reputation, by equating his criticism of Israel with racism.--Mystichumwipe (talk) 11:49, 12 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

This is what the sources are saying, and we are saying this in an attributed fashion.Icewhiz (talk) 11:58, 12 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Whatever is said in the article text, it is improper to put Hill in any "anti-semitism" category based on what he said, when such a conclusion relies entirely on "code word" theory and guilt by association. Negative categorizations, especially of living people articles, should be limited to clear-cut cases. 73.71.251.64 (talk) 02:44, 14 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Agreed and removed the Category:Antisemitism in the United States per the very clear header there which says It must not include articles about individuals, groups or media that are allegedly anti-Semitic, only those that are provably so. nableezy - 18:34, 14 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

It seems that the writer is more interested in his bias protection of Mr. Hill than the truth. The simply disregard his comments as being "code words" disregard the modern usage & context of the phrase. There are many times Mr. Hill has shown support of anti-Semitic groups who engage in violent actions against Jews ,and has engaged in anti-jewish speach.

New Edits edit

I cannot update this page because of the 30/500 protection, however, some things are out of date. Some info is also misleading.

Introduction

It is not necessary to have this sentence in the introduction to this man's biography: "Hill was fired from his position as a commentator for CNN after remarks before the U.N. on the Arab–Israeli conflict that were perceived as anti-Semitic." Although his comments were perceived as anti-Semitic, some perceive them as not anti-Semitic. Because there is already a section titled "CNN firing", there is no reason to have this in the introduction.

Career

Since 2014, Hill has been a host of BET News[1], and in June of 2019 he has hosted digital talk series Black Coffee on BET with Gia Peppers and Jameer Pond[2].

Activism

Hill endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders candidacy for the 2020 US presidential election.[3]

Louis Farrakhan

This section should be deleted as it takes the comment out of context and serves the purpose of painting Hill as anti-Semitic and portrays Hill and Farrakhan as associates, whereas they have only had one conversation, which is already stated in the section "2016 photograph with Louis Farrakhan." There is no reason to reiterate the same topic twice in a personal biography. If this information is necessary, it should be on a separate page.

Not done: Can you help here by clearly stating whether each of your edits is an addition, deletion, or amendment - in each case showing the full text that is currently in the article and the full text of what you want to replace it with. Re the intro, I do not have an appetite to remove it - this seems like a highly notable event in his life and there is therefore merit in it being in the lead.
If you can carry out those amendments and then re-open the request, I or somebody else will come back and take another look. Thanks, Darren-M talk 00:20, 20 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Career section missing any CNN details? edit

Please add to Books. The first entry should be listed first since it's the most recent. The second entry should be listed after the current first entry (Except for Palestine) because it was published in 2020. The sources are within the entries; following the format, the titles both link to the corresponding book page by the publisher.

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Padgriffin Griffin's Nest 09:39, 9 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Partly done: I kept "CUNY Graduate Center" throughout the article. I also didn't add the "presidential" part as I could not find what exactly that means online and it didn't sound important. Aaron Liu (talk) 14:41, 24 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please remove the anti-semitism smear and weasel words. Alleged by whom? edit

Whoever wrote that sentence: do better. Stop conflating anti-semitism with criticism of the Israeli government. They are not the same. 70.121.162.56 (talk) 06:53, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I agree. The wording gives more weight to the a-s claim than it deserves. Neither article used in the lead makes that claim. Both articles argue that Hill's comments were not a-s. I have looked at the other sources mentioned in the section "CNN firing" to see who has made that claim. The Phil Enquirer mentions Temple University Trustee Leonard Barrack and there may be a few others.
The Slate article does say:
Soon, Seth Mandel, a top editor at the right-wing Washington Examiner—who, many have pointed out, has railed against our “internet outrage machine”—began referring to Hill’s “explicit call for Jewish genocide” and his “rabid anti-Semitism.” Pro-Israel groups, propped up by right-wing trolls, seized on the remarks and, no doubt, the chance to depose a liberal cable commentator. It worked.
So, I don't think we should give too much weight to the accusation. Mentioning it with attribution in the body is fine but including it in the lead without suitable qualification should be avoided. Burrobert (talk) 12:11, 17 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
